Good morning!
There’s not a lot to say about this team right now. We’ve spent the week picking through the pieces of those shattered playoff hopes. Now it’s up to the Jets to put it all back together again. They have the 1-6 Patriots this weekend and how they come out and perform will tell us everything we need to know.
I’ve written a piece for the official Jets channel here in the UK on Haason Reddick and what he can bring to the team. That will be published later today, so keep your eyes peeled for that. In the piece I expressed how despite him not being renowned as an edge setter and run stuffer, he’ll certainly improve what we have. Here’s a little gif snippet that will be featured in that piece.
Season ticket prices have gone up again, which means there’s been a 52% increase over the last four years despite the Jets posting a 22-52 record with 0 playoff appearances. I’m not sure how the team justify it and I’m not sure their marketing team have read the room in terms of their timing, unless they expect things to get worse.
I know a whole bunch of people who won’t be renewing and honestly, I think that’s the right call. The money they ask you to fork over in the states is absurd, and the product is at best, mostly pathetic. So until that team shows some fight, some heart, some confidence they can turn this around, I think their season ticket numbers will be lacking.
Today I’m actually going to turn my attention to some mocks…because I’ve had enough of talking about this team this week. Go out on Sunday and win.
🟢 Aaron Rodgers is listed with a number of injuries this week including his ankle and knee, but that won’t impact his status for Sunday. "I feel good on gamedays," Rodgers said. "The ankle responded really well. I just have some swelling in my knee from time to time, but I don't think it's going to be an issue." Hamstring was added to the ailments yesterday, but it’s more to do with making sure you’re sticking my the strict injury rules - "I think based on the rules you have to maybe put down anything you're getting treatment for," Rodgers said. "So yeah, I got treatment yesterday for my little hamstring tightness and my knee."
⚪ I posted a little note on Davante Adams speech to the Jets yesterday and Jeff Ulbrich spoke about it as well: "He brought a different vibe to practice and meetings," Ulbrich said early on Wednesday before the team's walk-through ahead of Sunday's game at New England. "And even his talk he did after the game was just, I thought, spot on. Amazing. For a guy who just showed up to have the feel of the heartbeat of our locker room and to speak on it was … he's making us better in so many ways. And it's not just between the white lines."
🟢 Will McDonald is now 2nd in the NFL with 8 sacks on the season and is coming off a career best 7 pressures against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "I'm just going to try to do the same thing, if not better," he said of Sunday's game, "Just going to do the same thing I did the first match we played. Just continue to ball out."
⚪ McDonald is using Haason Reddick to learn from and believes they’ll be a problem for defences to handle: "We're going to be the dynamic duo," McDonald said. "That's really all I got to say about that. I've already learned a lot from him based off technique, alignment, two-point stance. I've already learned numerous things from. I still got a lot more to learn from. He's definitely going to be a factor of how far this is going to go for me because I'm just going to keep that mentality of learning and working, especially that I got him here now. It's going to give me a lot of pieces I didn't have before."
🟢Interestingly Rich Cimini believes that this may be Aaron Rodger’s last season, speaking on his latest podcast he said “Honestly I don’t know if there’s any scenario where [Rodgers] would come back’ in 2025,” Cimini said. “… He’s just not playing well. I think his body is beat up. [And] I think if the Jets miss the playoffs, which it certainly appears they will, the Jets will start over next year. I’m not basing that on anything Rodgers told me or anyone in his circle told me. I just think this is probably going to be his final season. Again, just gut feeling, reading the tea leaves, that’s what I see.”
I’m not officially ready to get into the depths of college player scouting just yet, I have a sneaky suspicion we’ll have plenty of time for that over the course of the next few months. But I am ready to take a look at where some publications have us going.
