Good morning! 🌟
Left tackles need to be more athletic than right tackles because they’re protecting the blindside of the QB, right tackles can be bigger and slower but more powerful in the run game. If you’d spoken to me years ago, I probably would have said that. Recently I’ve completely abandoned that way of thinking and today I’m going to explain why.
That’s the topic of today’s newsletter, while we wait for some new signings. I’m convinced that Aaron Rodgers, Ben Jones, and OBJ will eventually be Jets, I just don’t know when. People preach patience, and we have no choice, but not having been to the playoffs since 2010, patience is in short supply with this fanbase, and understandably so.
✈️ The Jets are bringing in veteran defensive tackle Al Woods for a visit this week. After not being able to convince Fletcher Cox to leave Philadelphia and Calais Campbell signing with the Falcons before taking his visit, the Jets are still in the market for a defensive tackle. Woods will turn 36 this year, but still managed to generate 13 pressures and 2 sacks with Seattle last year. Importantly, he's always been considered a pretty good run defender. He's a former 4th-round pick of the Saints and he's a big unit at 330lbs. We need bodies at that position so I'm all for it.
🐶 George left tackle Broderick Jones is set to visit the Jets on Wednesday after visiting the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday. Jones is one of the more highly touted prospects and he allowed 0 sacks last year for the Bulldogs. Here’s what I said about Jones yesterday: “He has the kind of raw power that NFL coaches love, he’s a people mover and he’s no slouch in terms of his feet either. There will likely be growing pains for Jones in terms of pass-protection, but he’ll come in and dominate on the ground straight away”
