“Like touching water and ….” Good one David. We all say it’s preseason blah blah but on Gino mine is “can’t change spots on a tiger…” he is what he is … at this point in his career one would think even now he would be better in preseason
David, I was thrilled when the Browns selected Baker Mayfield! I was never a fan because of the way he conducted himself on and off the field. I watched the NetFlix QB show where he was featured along with Jaden Daniels and Joe Flacco. and it was fun to watch as I did get to see how he’s wired. I still think he’s a douche but I respect how competitive he is. He’s all ball when he plays. He lays it all out there. There’s a lot of chatter of about him being an option for us next season. He didn’t get the contract he wanted and he’s made his unhappiness clear to TB’s management. So he may be available next summer. Just my opinion but I would pass. He’s looking for somewhere in the $50m per for 4 years. He’s 31, he’s still only 6’ 1/2 and he’s still a douche! And most importantly seeing how he’s been rated as the 15th,26th rated QB he’s most definitely not a $50m per QB!
Thinking the Browns would take Darnold, I wanted Mayfield because I felt his personality would thrive in NY as opposed to to other coaches and players who have wilted here from the exposure.
Is he dick, 100%, but last year against the Jets while Glenn was still doing the Irish Jig down by the Jet end zone after McDonald’s td, Mayfield 1-2-3 down the field game winning field goal
Glenn didn’t know what hit him.
The way the NFL is paying players
50 million for a quarterback next year, chump change
I get your thinking on that but that same arrogance could also have been a problem here as he would have had to deal with the same poor roster and coaching staff Sam got stuck with. The NY media and the hostile fan reaction to his antics would have been good theatre. But again, short QB’s were never my thing and he really hasn’t won anything. They missed the playoffs with a disappointing late season swoon. They beat us bur so did 13 other teams. 😂
I was a Mayfield fan, Bobber, and wanted the Jets to draft him. I didn't want Darnold at all. Both struggled out of the gate, but both became very good players.
I wouldn't hate it if the Jets signed Mayfield, but hope they won't. I like what I've seen from Klubnick so far, but still have my doubts as to whether he could become a quality starter in the NFL. I definitely think the Jets should draft a QB next year.
IMO if they were to sign Mayfield, then they probably wouldn't draft a QB, as Mayfield supposedly wants a 4-year deal, and you don't want a rookie sitting that long, and Mayfield wouldn't take it kindly to having to compete for the starting job. I suppose they could let the rookie sit and learn his rookie season, then trade Mayfield following the season, but what if there are no takers, and why even sign him to a big, long-term contract with bad cap ramifications, if you're going to turn around and trade him after a year?
I wanted Mayfield that year because I thought he was the best prospect and was a winner, in spite of his off-field attitude.
If I have my druthers, I'm with Ron, I want a taller, bigger QB who is mobile, but who can take some hits.
Even looking into him is a total waste of time and effort. Like you said, 31, and 6'1/2" and injury prone, gets banged up every year to one extent or another. And he is a douche AND he's looking for his last big payday. I'm not surprised that TB isn't going to fold over his demands.
I watched that show too. You’re right he plays good but the guy is a dick. I was at the stadium the night they drafted and I was shocked when they took him and I said to myself, the judges are gonna get Donald with the third pick.
The unfortunate injuries that have kept several players out are definitely slowing the team building process. But the good news is so far none of the injuries are season ending and if the players continue to heal up none of them should miss opening day. I saw a good video with Darren Mougey with WFAN radio host Craig Carton. Carton is another radio/tv personality much like McAfee and of course he tried to twerk Mougey but not surprisingly his prying questions were cleverly deflected which was impressive as Carton is actually good at what he does. I’m with David on being excited about tomorrow’s game. Pizza,a few frosty refreshing brews and Jets football. 🍺
Hey guys, if you have some time pop over to the YouTube page as SNY has some great Jets videos. One of which featured Cade Klubnik’s post day 2 joint practice. For what ever physical limitations he might have his head is in the right place. He gets it! Very sharp, confident yet just the right amount of humbleness. Jowon Briggs is a block of granite. I can understand why teams have so much trouble trying to move him. He’s a great interview. Very bright and well spoken.
David, you are 100% correct about the beauty of Zurich and its surrounding area.
Supposedly there was a report on Swiss television of an Englishman tourist mimicking Julie Andrews by running through the fields outside the Van Trapp museum singing “ The hills are alive with the sound of music.”
The supposed tourist was wearing lederhosen and was gently tossing edelweiss through the air as he pranced outside the museum.
You wouldn’t know anything about that, would you?
Sorry to hear about Woody. Unfortunately ESPN has become totally unwatchable.
Woody’s problem wasn’t his class or any perceived lack of knowledge.
The Bristol circus’s 🎪insistence on having a bunch of screamers and political panderers on their telecasts 24/7 instead of actually having sports content has destroyed their credibility.
I tried to look back on twitter X from the early session of Tuesday’s joint practice.
Where Geno was horrible,
I know that there was a tweet where in consecutive plays, Mitchell burned the D in their tracks, he was wide open and Geno missed him badly both times. I don’t think he is having issues here, Geno is.
Presently the Jets as all the other NFL teams are unfinished product at this point of the year.
From OTAs to mandatory offseason sessions to training camp them controlled scrimmages followed by preseason games.
As the road gets harder, some players will rise to the occasion while some early heroes will falter.
We won’t know who the Jets will become until some of the injured hopefully become regular contributors.
Former Jet preseason legend David Clowney, for a few preseasons was crowned Mr August for his preseason accomplishments but as September approached he wilted because of the pressure to succeed.
The road gets harder for some of the starters and the nonstarters tomorrow night.
Agree with Bobber on ESPN. But McAfee is worth watching - very entertaining show, great NFL coverage. I liked Woody a lot too. He will land somewhere soon. Looking forward to tomorrow’s game along with you guys.
And David, I really love Zurich too. But like Basel even more. Switzerland is amazing.
Great reading David. You’re right that Zurich and the local area are exceptional. Taking the cable car to the Panorama Trail and hiking along the ridge with lunch at Restaurant Felsenegg overlooking Lake Zurich was an incredible experience. And speaking of great experiences, it would be nice to have a few great games by the Jets this season that we can all fondly look back on as the beginning of a new era of competitive and exciting football, like wins against the Bills and the Pats.
Glad that your trip is going well, David! Yes, Zurich is beautiful. I don't remember that much about it, however. I was there with my college choir at the end of my freshman year, which was 50 years ago.
Loved the catch Ruckert made. Hopefully, that's a sign of things to come from him. That's the kind of play I envisioned him making for the Jets when they drafted him.
I can't imagine anyone being dumb enough to pick a fight with Jelani Woods! LOL
Loved the comment about being surprised that water is wet.
I don't know what your sources are, but I saw the comment that Bobber saw from one of the Jets' beat writers, and I think that Mitchell scored 2 TDs on the first day of joint practices. Geno's been pretty inaccurate/bad as well, so that has had an effect on all the receivers.
I hope that I can find a way to see tomorrow night's game.

The only difference between Geno now and Geno his rookie year is that when he was a rookie he was the supposed future.
Today, he is only a single season stop-gap, until the next franchise savior is anointed.
He’s going to make some great throws than some of his throws will cause TV remote launches in Jet fans homes
Well said

Good to get back to football agree run a few PBR‘s and go Kkubnick
Steve, PBR’s🤔 impressive dude👍
Was just in San Antonio. I’m dying for one lol

Bobber, I agree regarding Mitchell. I think he caught a couple of TD passes on day one of the joint practices, and he was getting open.
Bobber, because it's Switzerland, the lyrics should read "The Hills Are Alive With The Sound of MONEY !!!!!!!"
Actually “ The Hills are alive with Secret Bank Accounts”

I did that climb as well. Beautiful place.
Re: AD Mitchell. Again, reports of past 2 days state he has been toasting Tampa CB’s only to be over or underthrown. He has the worst QB luck.
Benton looks to winning SS so far.
Cooper is having rookie troubles. It happens but he seems like a good kid. So it may take a year.
Taylor and Ruckert seem to playing well along with Woods. So Sadiq will have to fight to get on field when healthy.
TE is hard transition from NCAA. He might miss most of camp and this means he may not really contribute this year until last 4-6 games.
GW and Breece look awesome.
Isiah Williams has become our #3 thus far.
Geno will get better, I’m sure of it.
Biggest question for me on O is who are our back up IOL, and can we upgrade Myers?
Davis playing well at MLB + leadership 🙏🏾.
Hearing good things about Jackson at DT, but nothing on Briggs hmmm 🤔
Bailey is as advertised but McD very quiet.
Can’t really judge D until Sweat is back. Hammy might keep him out all camp.
AZ looks like he’s in front of Wright. 👏🏾.
