Good morning!
The Jets revealed their new uniforms and they were met with near-universal approval. The last iteration represented a period of complete incompetence, the Adam Gase years, the mismanagement of the roster, and the consistent failure of a franchise that couldn’t find its way out of a paper bag. Who knows what this new era will bring, but I’m ready for something different.
Also a big congratulations to the New York Rangers, who won the President’s trophy for the best record in hockey this season. As I said last week, NY sport seems to be on the up and I’m hopeful the Jets are going to join the party at some point.
Sometimes I think analysts release so many mock drafts in order to guarantee that in at least one of them, they have some accurate picks. Field Yates and Mel Kiper had a three round mock draft out yesterday and they had the Jets taking Troy Fautana at #10 overall saying “I thought about Georgia tight end Brock Bowers here after the Jets added Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses in free agency, but I wound up landing on Fautanu because of his versatility to potentially play four different spots along the offensive line” and then safety Jaden Hicks in the third round saying: “The Jets have a sneaky need at safety, and few defensive prospects have the versatility of Hicks. He played 323 snaps at safety, 79 at corner, 154 at inside linebacker and 191 at outside linebacker last season.”
The Jets had Brock Bowers and Jordan Travis at the facility yesterday. Some people tried to read a lot into the fact they had Bowers at the same time as the uniform release…I wouldn’t read too much into that.
Who’s the best developmental QB for the Jets to draft in 2024?
That’s a question that comes up in a lot of conversations I have with fans, and it’s a very difficult one to answer.
Technically the Jets could take one of the better QB prospects in the draft and develop him, so while I don’t think they will or should take a QB at #10, it’s possible. So the field to choose from is so vast on a hypothetical like that.
Let’s just presume that they don’t take a QB at #10 and they don’t trade down and take a QB within the first 40 picks.
That eliminates Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, J.J. McCarthy, Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr, all of whom could end up hearing their name called in round one.
Which means you’re left with the following field to choose from, starting with your pick in the third round. Of course there is a chance that one of these guys goes in the second round, but let’s just presume they’re all there and you’re intent on taking a QB.
