Good morning!
It’s never easy. It’s also never dull.
Let’s just recap what’s happened in the last 7-10 days.
🟢We travelled to London and lost a close one to the undefeated Vikings.
⚪We fire our Head Coach just five weeks into the season.
🟢We strip our offensive coordinator of play-calling duties.
⚪We lose a another close one to the divisional rival Bills.
🟢We give our prized off-season acquisition permission to seek a trade elsewhere.
⚪We trade for one of the best receivers in the game.
Two weeks in a row we saw Aaron Rodgers target Mike Williams with the game on the line and two weeks in a row we’ve seen a lack of communication result in game destroying interceptions.
If the Jets are here at 4-2 instead of 2-4, the conversation would be a lot different. We’re not, it isn’t, and Joe Douglas, desperately trying to avoid that iceberg, is doing something about it.
The Jets have sent a conditional third round pick to the Raiders for Davante Adams. That third round pick can become a second round pick if certain conditions are met:
Adams is named to the AP first or second team All-Pro teams.
Adams makes an appearance for the Jets in the AFC title game or Super Bowl.
Chances are this remains a third, but if it does become a second then I doubt anyone cares. If Adams makes the All-Pro team then he’s going to have done some special things the rest of the way. He’s missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and having played with Gardner Minshew to start the season, he had 18 receptions for 209 yards and one touchdown through the first three weeks. In short, it’s very unlikely that he can make the All-Pro team this season.
According to multiple reports, the Jets were in deep conversations with the Raiders before the loss to the Bills. But chances are that the Jets were a little more willing to eat that salary once the stands at MetLife had emptied. The Raiders will get rid of the entire salary which means that the Jets will take on the prorated portion, which comes out to $11.6M.
Jets:
2024: $11.59 million ($11.2 million guaranteed)
2025: $36.25 million ($0 guaranteed)
2026: $36.25 million ($0 guaranteed)
Raiders:
2024: $13.67 million (Dead Cap)
2025: $15.7 million (Dead Cap)
What happens after this season is unclear, but his money isn’t guaranteed, so let’s leave that decision and discussion for another day.
Following the trade the Jets did restructure the contract of Adams to lower his cap hit this season to $3.21 million, they did this by adding two void years to the backend of the deal which is standard practice in the NFL now.
Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers played 108 games together for Green Bay and the new Jets receiver had 622 catches for 7,590 yards and 69 touchdowns.
