It turns out that they beat 3 playoff teams, almost 4, Beat the Eagles for the first time in thier history and broke a 15 game losing streak ad a 19 year drought at New England. The biggest failure was not pivoting to a new QB after Rogers went or thier offense. Huff's comments post game were kind of callous IMO. The Jets gave him a shot. to just blurt out im going aftre the most mney i can get - after a great win is bullshit/selfish. He's a goner and rigtfully so - they have 3 other pass rushers. Was a great year David did yomen's work. Time for Rangers Canucks - HUGE game tonght.

Yeah, that post game comment didn’t set well with me either. Could have just said “let’s see where the chips fall”!

From the team beat writers, all offensive coaches are returning.

Insanity at its utmost.

The one thing that absolutely drives me nuts is when Saleh makes the same ridiculous statements every week thinking that the fan base is either stupid or blind or both.

“I see improvement from Zach every week in practice”

“ We are a few tweeks away from having a really fun offense to watch”

“Hackett is doing a great job, we have really improved offensively since the Atlanta game”

Then yesterday’s idiotic lockerroom proclamation to the team, “2024 is a new year, we are 1-0 in 2024 with many more wins coming this year”.

Someone should inform Saleh that the league’s new year starts in about 6-7 weeks where every team will be 0-0.

Kind of hard after a win. I love that Saleh said "We are 1-0 in 2024" cause we are. That team showed up in shit weather determined to win a game and break all kinds of streaks They did it. Not sure what you would write about if the team finished 11-6 hahahahahahha

The only think I'm really upset about this morning is that Keith Carter is reportedly coming back. Just don't think that's warranted at all.

Agreed! I thought that was ridiculous!

mmmm hope that is not true

I agree 1000%. Carter has FAILED as o-line coach each year he has been here. And I think some prospective OL free agents will not sign here because of his reputation.

Come on StevieBoy, We beat the school for the blind! 😂 This was a terrible Patriots team and honestly I just can’t take any satisfaction out it of beating them. Had we beat them earlier this season when we played them in an environment charged with excitement I could enjoy that. I get the BB hate but this just wasn’t the kind of win I could really enjoy. Breece is a beast. I was happy we escaped mostly healthy.

Agreed. This was the worst Pats team I've ever seen. Their QB situation sucks and we handed them a shot at one of the blue-chippers coming out in this draft. Anyone who praises that because of hatred for Beli-Dick needs therapy. The "1-0 in September" statement was puerile and idiotic. He cannot take credit for ANYTHING, he has totally failed this team and its fans. He doesn't get to grin and smile about. he's useless. And Sack is never going to be a star anywhere unless he gets struck by lightning and it rewires his brain in a positive way.

a win is a win is a win - Next year we dont have to hear "They haven't beaten in 16 tries - EVER AGAIN ! Thats what it means to me and the players. It also goes down as "The last game BB coached he lost to the Jets". I'll take all of that weather the teams is shitty of not. I read that Garrett Wilson has a neck injury although there has been no update.

Hi David, great analysis. first, as I said the other day I knew they were going to win and hence a weaker draft position. They won't get either of those two top tackles. I believe with their cap situation, it's almost going to be impossible to fill all their major needs. As you had said, almost the entire offensive line. I too am concerned about AVT ( contrary to another's comment here). Some players for whatever reason are just injury prone. A second wide receiver. and you can go on from there.

On another note, Rex Hogan. this is his second go around here. Wasn't he part of another failed regime? Being JD's right hand man and with his responsibilities, he is also a big part of the failures.

Thank you! I agree on three points. David’s done a great job from day one. Do I agree with him 100%? Of course not. But I don’t think some clown showing up here out of the blue has any business talking to him in that fashion. And I agree with you and David on the AVT situation. Regardless of the nature of the injury the fact that he’s now missed significantly more time than he’s played in consecutive seasons is at least noteworthy. And lastly the Rex Hogan situation is also a curious one for me as well. Bobber brought his name up a while ago and I think we need to look further into this clown. He was all over the place during Hard Knocks injecting himself into the picture at every opportunity. I’m still trying to figure out out what he actually does other than talk to the players on the phone we draft? 😂

Awesome win! Seeing Belicheat walk off with hood down was precious. 100 percent worth losing 2 draft slots. There are 10 elite picks in this draft- 4 qb’s, 2 ol, 3 wr’s, and 1 te. Jets in great shape. Having Zach star for another team is sickening though.

Expand full comment

The main thing winning that game is not having to listen abut "losing XXX games in rows to them ever again. The whole ogaranization was sick of it. Great way to start the year. Losing draft slots means nothing. Its a crap shoot even at 2 that the jets have found out twice. I would be that 1/2 those positions you mention are busts. Wilson is never starring in the NFL for anyone.

The AVT is injury prone thing is lazy/intellectually weak IMHO. Two freakish, non-chronic injuries. Unrelated to each other. Is he more likely than any other player with non-chronic injuries to get hurt next season? Nope. He’s also not less likely to get injured. Thats about it. Please be better on this topic.

David, I have to say you have done a magnificent job with the Jet Way !!!! You have the best column on New York Jets football I have ever seen and the most cogent and logical to boot. I used to be on GGN every day, but now I go on maybe once or twice a week. Just keep doing what you are doing, it works perfectly. You make being a Jet fan a bit more tolerable.

I agree with you 1000% that it's going to be extremely hard to go into 2024 truly confident of the outcome. With the same cast of characters that have wrecked the current team all coming back in 2024, it is a folly to drink any Kool-Aid at all. What's going to happen is going to happen, and the more people pump themselves up waaaaaay too early, the more disgusted they will be later on when the floor collapses. One thing is certain, without at least a decent o-line that can open holes and protect St. Rodgers, everything the team has sacrificed, including the future, will count for absolutely zero. And letting Huff walk and relying on McDonald to make the jump in his second season is just foolish. The entire defense is promulgated on the pass rush getting home and disrupting the QB, and without Huff it will be a LOT harder.

The Chiefs game still bugs me. I can still see Mahomes scrambling for a 1st down on 3rd and long while a defender is held. And then there was that phantom interference call. I know that everyone gets jobbed by the refs but that game stands out to me.

First of all, thanks for all the hard work over the season. It's so great to have this one-stop shop with all the insight and stories (and opinion!). Hope you get a little bit of rest now. A few thoughts from me -

God I hope they extend Huff, but if the worst happens McDonald shows some promise, and hopefully they can add further depth through the draft and free agency. It's still a very good D-line.

At some stage they need to think about the succession plan for Mosley too - he's a big piece, both as a player and a leader but he's 31.

With Bekton, my head says move on, my heart says keep him on a one year prove it deal. It's not been a great year but having played one game in the previous two seasons and a constantly changing line around him he could still improve. I don't think he's the answer at LT but he could be the swing option covering both positions.

I still believe in Douglas and Saleh but they know they're on the hot seat. Hopefully we get the Douglas from the 2022 draft and not the 2023 draft/free agency haul.

Finally, there's Rodgers. It seems like he's still loved in the place but even he must realise all the baggage he brought with him has failed. At the very least he needs to concede that the Jets need a decent back-up QB and not see it as a threat to his ego.

Anyway, onwards and upwards. I'm approaching 40 years of following this lot, hopefully there's some glory not too far away. We live in hope!

Sorry, but Saleh and Douglas should have already been fired for incompetence. They need to sign Huff, plain and simple. Lawson is going to be gone and McDonald needs at least another year before we see how good he really is. As of right now he is strictly a situational pass rusher and nothing else, he's not capable of setting the edge. He needs to put on some weight and show that it doesn't affect his speed. I think what Huff said was bush league, but the Jets have probably their last real shot at getting through the playoffs and to the Supe in 2024, because the next 4 years are going to be rebuilding years from top to bottom. They need to sign him. To bet the farm on St. Rodgers authoring a miracle is short-sighted at best. Who knows if he will be able to perform as expected in 2024, let alone 2025 or further. And as far as JD and the 2022 draft is concerned, even a blind squirrel will find a nut occasionally. And a lot of those picks came from his wheeling and dealing and fleecing prowess, especially with Seattle. Other than that, his record in both draft and FA is very spotty. Some of that can come from poor scouting, but he's made some real poor choices. And I don't think Becton will take a prove-it deal, he still thinks he is an "elite" LT and he isn't one.

David, first and foremost, thanks for all the great columns/posts this season! You truly are the best writer covering the Jets. So good, that it's tempting to hold onto my subscription just to read your take on things, but I won't. I'm truly done with the Jets. I don't think they will ever win. They may not be cursed by anything Joe Namath did, but they're sure cursed with stupid owners and have been for the last 50+ years.

It figures the Jets would screw their draft position and in so doing, miss out on the top OTs, the top QBs, and probably the top WRs too. So typical of this joke of a team/franchise.

I appreciate Aaron Rodgers doing all he has to help the team, and while I think he is misguided on some of his attitudes and opinions, I think he is basically a good guy. The decision to bring him here appears to not have been a good one however. If it was a good decision, it was undone by the Jets' bad luck or owner and organizational incompetence.

Because I still like him, like you, David, and the rest of long-suffering Jets fans, I hope that all will turn out well for the Jets in 2024, but I don't believe they will. From my perspective, if it weren't for all of you, Rodgers, and a few players on the Jets I really like, I'd wish that they would go 0-17 next season so that Saleh and JD would be fired, and maybe Woody would be so discouraged and disgusted that he would decide to cut his losses and sell the team while it still had a high value. Regardless of what happens, however, I am done with the Jets. I'm truly sorry that I have spent so much time, and energy over the last 59 years following and rooting for that joke of a franchise.

I'm not surprised that some posters took umbrage and Huff's honest answer. I don't blame him. On any other team, he probably would have been a starter his rookie season or by his sophomore season, or at the very least, they would have offered to extend him earlier. Not the Jets. They'll wind up pissing off Breece Hall and G. Wilson and they'll leave to. Just watch and wait. I don't blame any player that wants to leave the Jets. It's where players' careers end, either due to injury, never getting a shot, or not being used properly.

You really want them to go 0-17 I have 54 years and i know your pain. However some of us wnat to win and if they dont then those guys are gone. The team isnt getting sold. I wish i could be just done i really do. Best of luck to you

As I said, I want them to win for YOUR (yours and other long-suffering Jets fans) sakes and for the players on the team that I really like. If it was just up to me, yes, I'd want them to go 0-17. IMO the CS, FO and owners deserve that total humiliation for all the years of frustration and pain they've put the fanbase through.

I realize that Woody probably won't sell the team, but if this team flops badly, he could get really discouraged and finally see that he doesn't know squat about football, and at least stop meddling once and for all. If the team went 0-17, along with having no QB of the future in place, tight cap space, and the OL still being a shambles, the value of the team would probably plummet. In that scenario, Woody might have enough financial sense to realize that he ought to sell before the value drops any lower, because it's not going to rise under his ownership. JD was likely the most-qualified GM that the Jets have ever hired. If he winds up failing so badly, it will be due to Woody's meddling and the strong possibility that the Jets are cursed. I could be mistaken, but I think if he starts thinking the team is cursed and the value is dropping, he might decide to bail and find a new toy to play with.

Ok Craig - got you. Unfortunatley that wont happen. Its the off-season - early again. IF we did get a new owner us old timers will never reap the benifits. I wrote it off as "this is the way it will always be"
