Today is going to be a fun day. I’m not sure if the Jets will make any waiver claims considering they’re working from a position of having one of the better rosters in football. Today is a day for teams like the Cardinals, teams building for the future.
I am looking forward to seeing who makes it through to the practice squad. I’m hoping Trey Dean, Greg Senat and Pita Taumoepenu do, but I’m not holding my breath with any of them.
The title of today’s post is ‘initial’ and not ‘final’ because inevitably the roster will look different come opening night against Buffalo.
I got a few messages yesterday about the Jets cutting Thomas Morestead and whether that indicated the Jets were looking to sign Matt Araiza. The short answer is no.
This is purely roster gymnastics. As a vested veteran, Morestead doesn’t have to pass through waivers so the Jets will have an agreement in place to re-sign him once they round out the edges of the roster.
Cutting Morestead gives the Jets more time to figure out who needs to go to IR. Carter Warren and Carl Lawson are probably the two most likely names although both practiced yesterday.
