We have a game this weekend, but now with elimination confirmed that game is about development and draft pick implications.
It’s a shame that a season that started with so much optimism ends in a very familiar pattern. 3 games to go and we’re talking about next season.
Yesterday we looked at some potential head coaching candidates if Robert Saleh were fired, and if the Jets were an appealing proposition. Today we’re going to quickly run through the pending Jets free agents and whether I’d release or retain.
👍 Aaron Rodgers is being activated to the 53 to enable him to continue practicing the rest of the way. But it was made clear that he won't be playing, which is absolutely the right decision.
❗ Zach Wilson is still in the concussion protocol, but Robert Saleh would not close the door on him playing this Sunday.

✂️ To make room for Aaron Rodgers the Jets announced they'd cut Nick Bawden. It's expected that he'll be signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers. Interestingly I saw a stat yesterday that indicated that in the two games Bawden has played 25%+ of the snaps, the Jets have scored 30 points in each (Denver & Houston).
The Jets have 21 players set to hit some form of free agency this summer, it sounds like a lot but when you look at it, there are only a handful of key players set to test the market.
The vast majority of pending free agents are unrestricted, meaning they’ll be able to negotiate and sign with whoever they like, and they have no obligation to allow the Jets to match.
There are two restricted free agents in Kenny Yeboah and Bradlee Anae. The Jets can choose to tag them with a right of first refusal, but considering it’ll likely be a tag worth $2.5 million+, I doubt it.
