Good morning!
I really didn’t want to write about Aaron Rodgers again today, especially after writing this piece for GGN yesterday, but there is a distinct lack of activity around the Jets at the moment and I can’t help but think the two are connected.
So today we’re going to look at that and theorize the impact it’s having.
Yesterday I was told that my actual job was likely going to be made redundant, three weeks before my wife heads off on maternity leave. Not ideal. So if you’ve been delaying subscribing to the newsletter, today would be a really good day to do it 😉 and I’ll even throw in 15% off, let’s call it redundancy 15. If you have any suggestions on how we can make TJW better or more appealing, just let me know.
If you like what we do here at TJW, please share with family and friends and hopefully they’re crazy enough as you and also want to read about the Jets every weekday.
🏛️ They dominated on the field together and now they’ll share a special moment. Marty Lyons will be Joe Klecko’s presenter at his Hall of Fame presentation this summer. One New York Sack Exchange member presenting another, couldn’t get anyone better.
🐊 Zack Rosenblatt had an interesting thought in his latest column, where he floated the idea that maybe Joe Douglas could target someone like Florida QB Anthony Richardson in the first round while also completing the trade for Aarn Rodgers. A QB for now and a QB for later. “If the Jets are looking for a quarterback of the future for whenever Rodgers retires, Richardson would be an ideal choice as someone who could use some seasoning for a year or two anywhere. He’s a freak athlete with great size (6-4, 232) and tools worth developing.”
🐯 The Bengals announced the signing of former Jet Tarell Basham. The defensive end spent two and a half years with the Jets between 2018-2020. He recorded 5.5 sacks in 42 games including 12 starts.
🔴⚪️ Former Jets QB Boomer Esiason was the voice of reason yesterday, squashing the notion of another team swooping in for Aaron Rodgers: “That’s just not the way you want to conduct business — especially when you get an owner involved. [Woody Johnson] has got to get on his plane… and go talk to Aaron Rodgers, and Aaron Rodgers says he only wants to play for the Jets.”
👍 According to a report in the New York Post, the Jets expect Breece Hall to be ready for the first game of the season in September. He will likely spent the majority of the off-season on the PUP list and will be held out of the preseason, but all signs point to him being back. That’s great news, but obviously a lot can happen between now and September.
🖥️ The Jets met virtually with Old Dominion guard Nick Saldiveri, one of the more athletic guards in the draft this year. Most analysts consider him an ideal pick for a zone blocking team, and there is talk that he could move to center long term. I do wonder if instead of taking a tzckle high, the Jets will instead look to sign Ben Jones and then draft a developmental talent like Nick.
Odell Beckham Jr is waiting to see if the Aaron Rodgers deal gets done. That’s something you hear pretty much on a daily basis when you talk to enough people.
