☕ Good morning! ☀️
This is the last newsletter before the curtain comes down on the 2024 New York Jets, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who may be toasting that fact.
The 2024 Jets will go down as one of the most disappointing teams in franchise history and that’s saying something.
Stanley Kubrick once said “However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.” and it’s pretty dark for the Jets right now.
We’ve spent months analysing why the 2024 team failed so spectacularly, not it’s time to turn the page. So from Monday onwards I’m going to try and stay positive…well, at least until Rex Ryan is hired as the new Head Coach, at which point TJW may disappear into the abyss.
🟢 For the first time since 2021, the Jets did not have a single player named to the Pro Bowl roster. I’m not sure anyone can be surprised about that.
⚫ Despite not having a Pro-Bowler, six of our players were named as alternatives so we probably will have representation. Quinnen Williams, Irvin Charles, Garrett Wilson, Will McDonald, Sauce Gardner and Xavier Gipson.
🟢 QUIZ QUESTION - Who was the last Jets offensive player to get named to the Pro Bowl? Answer in the comments later, no googling.
⚫ The Jets announced that they have completed their GM interview with ESPN analyst Louis Riddick.
🟢 The team also confirmed that they have completed their interview with Ron Rivera for the Head Coach position.
⚫ Brant Boyer had nothing but praise for Irvin Charles who was named a Pro Bowl alternative following his stellar year on special teams - "I wish he could've stayed healthy to be represented for the work that he's done and the impact he's had on this team."
🟢 Final power ranking of the season. This one courtesy of PFF who have the Jets 23rd in the NFL - “The Jets endured another tough week, suffering a 40-14 blowout loss to the Bills, marking their second-straight defeat and 12th of the season. Now sitting at 4-12, the Jets are firmly in contention for a top-5 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. This season has been far from what they hoped for, but it feels all too familiar. When do the Jets ever get what they want? On the bright side, Aaron Rodgers’ turnover-worthy play rate of 1.9% ranks as the fourth-lowest in the NFL, providing at least one positive takeaway in a bleak year.”
There’s been a lot of chatter recently about the 2025 QB class and it’s almost universally agreed that it’s a poor class to need a signal caller.
When people look at positional talent in a draft they tend to focus on the top. Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward are considered the two best quarterbacks, but the evaluation of both is all over the scale.
Both will likely be gone by the time the Jets make their selection and so we need to start looking a little further down the draft.
There’s a chance that Alabama’s Jalen Milroe will land at the back of the first round, but it’s likely that three QBs will come off the board in the second round. Milroe is the first, Ewers from Texas is the second, Carson Beck from Georgia is the third.
All three of those players have positives and negatives to their game and all four of them would make me nervous as immediate starters.
If the Jets take any of those guys then they’d be wise to sit them for a year behind Tyrod Taylor who should be the starting QB heading into the off-season once the Aaron Rodgers decision has been made.
But what about if the Jets want to take a flier a little further down the draft. Many expect Jaxson Dart to go anywhere from the 4th round to the 7th round.
So let’s just talk about Jaxson Dart for a minute.
