Good morning! ☀️
I think Spring has finally sprung, at least over here in the UK. I absolutely love the Spring and Summer, but it does remind me how far away football is. I’ve tried to get into the XFL and other leagues, but it just doesn’t do it for me. Spring is for hockey playoffs (let’s go Rangers), basketball playoffs (let’s go Knicks), and baseball (Let’s go Mets).
I officially finished up my work yesterday with the company that made me redundant. I think this is the first time I’ve officially been out of work in about 20 years after working through university. So while we wait for the 2nd little Wyatt-Hupton to arrive I’ll have some more time to dedicate to TJW (which is kind of work I guess). Players and agents are about to be very annoyed with my constant messaging.
Today I’m going to think out loud, as I contemplate whether trading for DeAndre Hopkins is a good idea for the Jets. I don’t know what side of the fence I’ll be coming down on with this one as I start writing, so let’s see how it goes.
1️⃣ Rich Cimini had this absolute beauty yesterday - ‘With Garrett Wilson and Corey Davis on the Jets roster, Aaron Rodgers will have a chance to throw a touchdown pass to a 1st-round wide receiver for the first time in his career. The most touchdown passes to be thrown without one going to a 1st-round wide receiver (since 1970): Rodgers 475, Bartkowski 156, and Blake Bortles 103. If you look at what Rodgers has achieved in his career, that’s pretty remarkable.
🐶 Mel Kiper Jr had his two-round mock draft out yesterday and he had the Jets selecting Broderick Jones at #13 - “Jones could play on the right or left side in the NFL -- he was nearly flawless for the Bulldogs last season” - He then had the Jets taking tight end Luke Musgrove “Musgrave is a toolsy, 6-foot-6 tight end with great hands. He played just two games last season because of a knee injury, but he was starting to show his potential as a pass-catcher”. Before returning to the line with Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann - “Tippman and John Michael Schmitz (Minnesota) are two starting-caliber centers likely to be drafted in Round 2. The Jets can't go wrong with either one here. Tippman, who started 23 games in college, has excellent range as a run blocker and can move his feet well in pass protection”.
🧀 Packers president Mark Murphy met with the media before his annual tour of Wisconsin, which I imagine consists of eating cheese and drinking beer, sounds pretty good to me. He was pretty reserved when asked about Aaron Rodgers, he declined to comment on whose court the ball was in, and he also declined to confirm whether the Packers would be happy letting this role through the summer. You can watch the clip by clicking above, but it’s pretty obvious the Packers want this done by the draft, and I can’t blame them. We want this done before the draft. He did speak about Aaron Rodgers in the past tense and Jordan Love in the present tense.
