Good morning!
Tomorrow we have our live practice with the Commanders, and there are sure to be a few fireworks. The Jets should dominate the session based on roster talent, but it doesn’t always work that way, and while it’s important to not overreact, it’s the first small test for this group of players to assert their dominance.
CeeDee Lamb is holding out, Trent Williams is holding out, Ja’Marr Chase is in camp but he’s not practising, same with Brandon Aiyuk. In short, the Jets are not the only team working through some holdout issues, but Haason Reddick continues to dominate the headlines.
Robert Saleh has been talking about the upcoming practice with the Commanders - "It's going to be fun," HC Robert Saleh said of Thursday's joint session with Washington. "The practice is going to be really good too, just as an added bonus for preparation, to get somebody else in here to go against somebody else will be good."
The Head Coach also had some really positive things to say about Jamien Sherwood who’s looked outstanding in camp "Every single year he [Sherwood] has gotten better and better and better," Saleh said. "He's increased his weight, his IQ, his speed, his strength, his mindset, just like Jermaine [Johnson], it is a mindset to get better day in and day out. But this dude, he's a hell of a linebacker."
We don’t know who’s going to play on Saturday against Washington, but the coaching staff had initiated conversations - "We've had preliminary conversations," Saleh said. "I haven't finalized anything. I won't finalize until Friday." I’d be surprised if we see any of the starters for this game, and I don’t mind that one bit. On Friday we’ll have a little preview of some of the Jets players hoping to make an impact this weekend.
Remember we said that the players needed someone else to hit? Well multiple fights broke out at camp yesterday, Garrett Wilson was involved, Micheal Clemons was involved which will shock nobody. It got so bad that Saleh had to call a meeting at the halfway line to cool every down. I imagine part of his talk revolved around being smart, looking after each other and waiting for the games.
One person who doesn’t get involved is Breece Hall who said: “Me personally, it’s too hot for me to be fighting.” Yeah stay out of it Breece.
Robert Saleh just said “We’ll see” when asked when Mike Williams will be back on the field. He did confirm there were some doctor visits coming up, so hopefully he gets the all clear.
One positive from yesterday’s practice…a marked improvement from Joe Tippmann with snapping the ball. I’ll take improvement over perfection at this point.
Tyron Smith was not participating in team drills again with tightness in his lower extremities, Saleh claimed it was the plan all along. I think it’s natural for some fans to be a little twitchy considering Smith’s very long injury history.
Aaron Rodgers was under a lot of pressure yesterday with three “sacks” marked. Will McDonald had a sack on Morgan Moses and that’s not the easiest thing to do. I think it’s safe to say that the defensive line got the best of the offensive line yesterday.
Xavier Gipson was back in action yesterday but Michael Carter II is still sidelined, as is Malik Taylor and Takk McKinley, who was putting together a fine camp.
I can only presume that the Philadelphia Eagles are laughing into the cheesesteaks as they witness the prolonged holdout of former start Haason Reddick.
