☀️ Good morning ☕
The NFL coaching cycle has well and truly started turning. After Robert Saleh found himself on the unemployment line a few weeks ago, Dennis Allen is now in the same boat. Following a loss to the Panthers the Saints decided they needed a kickstart.
Luke Getsy and several offensive coaches were fired in Las Vegas and I can see more and more firings over the coming weeks. There are a lot of poor teams in the NFL right now, the gap between good and bad seems to be at an all-time high.
Today I had a few things on my mine, how Tyron Smith is getting on and how bad the Jets are at tackling.
🟢 With the win against Houston our draft focus has been delayed, at least for another week. However PFF have been weighing up the strengths and weaknesses of the 2025 draft class. It’s a good year if you need a safety, cornerback, defensive tackle or tight end. It’s a bad year if you need a quarterback, guard, centre or linebacker.
⚫ Haason Reddick had a huge impact against Houston. The former Eagle was on the field for 42 of 75 snaps, registered 8 pressures, 0.5 sacks and was in for 5 of the 8 Jets sacks. That’s only his second game. Oh what could have been if he was here all along.
🟢 I also missed this stat from the Houston game. According to ESPN research the Jets had three consecutive touchdown drives of 70-plus yards, something they hadn't done in a single game since 2016
⚫ According to PFF the Jets shouldn’t be buyers or sellers at the deadline, instead they need to go with what they have - “They went and got Davante Adams and then got Haason Reddick back playing. The problem is that the Jets are 3-6 with an interim head coach. The season isn’t completely over, but how much damage to the future should they do for a chance at an unlikely postseason run?”
🟢 The Denver Broncos agreed to trade OLB Baron Browning to the Arizona Cardinals who the Jets will play this weekend. The 6’3, 240lb Browning was a third round pick of the Broncos back in 2021 and has spent his whole career in Denver. Browning has only played 146 snaps this season and is yet to record a sack after recording 5 last year. He’s also only recorded 5 pressures this season although he has turned into a reliable run defender with a PFF run grade of 72.3 in 2024. This comes after it was announced that Denver had signed pass-rusher Jonathan Cooper to a new deal over the weekend.
⚫ While talking to the media yesterday, Morgan Moses confirmed that he’s dealing with a grade 2 MCL tear, damage to his meniscus and a small fracture. Somehow he only missed two games and has been playing through the issue. According to Mike Garafolo, Moses has been sleeping in a hyperbaric chamber which is basically a way for your body to get 3x more oxygen to help with healing. Moses is as committed as it gets to the 2024 Jets and I’ve got a lot of time for it.
🟢 As expected the Jets Sunday Night Football game against the Colts on November 17th has been flexed out of primetime. Instead that game will kick off at 1pm EST which I’m absolutely delighted about.
⚫ According to Tom Pelissero, former Jets edge rusher Bryce Huff is expected to be available at the trade deadline just 8 games into his Philadelphia Eagles career. The former UDFA who blossomed with the Jets has struggled to find consistency in the Vic Fangio defence and his production is way done. After recording 10 sacks and 67 pressures in 2023, he has just 1.5 sacks and 11 pressures halfway through 2024, this after signing a 3-year $51.1 million deal with Philly.
🧱 Don’t look now but we’ve finally started to get the Tyron Smith that we’ve become familiar with over the years in Dallas.
