HACKETT REMOTUS EST
Seriously, kidding aside - I want to thank you David for having what I think is the best NYJets Substack. Period. There are so many great guys here, whose comments I enjoy very much... thought provoking, funny, sometimes a bit enraged as we rant and scream about this team that we love so much.
Even with the pitiful state of the offense, I love this team, still smile with hope, like a forever kid, when we come up on a game. And yes, this has got to be the worst ever offense that I've seen in my 57 years of being a Jets fan. And that's 57 years of consciously being aware I am a Jets fan; remember... I was born a Jets fan, cause GOD made me a Jets fan even before I was dropped down the Celestial Birthing Slide (think Waterslide like those theme parks...) in 1958. But even then, when something good happens, when they make a good play, when I see Garrett twist himself like a Gumby, breaking ankles as the DB's struggle to get him, or Conklin making like Mark Bavaro v2.0, carrying half the team for an additional 10 yards, or Breece the Beast ripping one - all that still brings a smile, a great cheer and - Hic ! - sometimes another shot of Tequila.
David, though you don’t celebrate, a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
I’m shocked that the Jet organization still lets Hackett get in front of microphones.
Is it some cruel joke that the Jet organization wants to punish the fans. Or don’t they realize that every day as this season is dragging on to its disastrous finish, that Hackett keeps on proving that Sean Payton was 100% right.
David mentioned this quote from him that shows he is so far over his head.
Nathaniel Hackett: "When it comes to stats, there's so many different ways to look at numbers. Good, bad. There are people throughout this league that have been very, very good. There are those that are not as good. That fluctuates. There are so many things that change. That's why this game is so great. So many different things that change. Personnel. Situations. So many different things."
I guess he perceives all the historically negative facts HIS offense is producing as positive facts.
In the last three weeks, three OCs whose offensive units were embarrassing under performing were fired. Yet, Hackett whose offense just continuously gets worse every week, is as secure as if his unit is first in the league.
In Buffalo’s case it was a case of eliminating turnovers.
We all know Hackett is terrible as a play caller but can he at least drill into his offensive units to think and not make countless stupid penalties, is that asking too much, it is his job. Or does he perceive penalties in a different light.
To keep Rodgers happy, the Jets offense is turning into the weekly joke on every football related show after every game.
I really hope that Rodgers comes back next year and gives the fans something to be proud of because it’s not going to get any better around here for the rest of the season. I really don’t think the majority of fans will be able to Hackett.
It's pretty disappointing and a lot of it is nonsensical. As some others have pointed out, it's getting to a point where you may as well ignore these press conferences, as very little comes out. The player interviews are far more revealing.
I think if we fail again on Friday with a new QB in the system, then regardless of whether Rodgers would be upset or not, Hackett should go. If it takes a certain QB to elevate a system from worst in football, then you may as well not have an OC. Just let Rodgers be OC/QB next year. Of course I'm being extreme to make a point, but Hackett has nowhere to hide now.
I am intrigued to see how different the system looks with Boyle, but I'm not expecting a great deal. The new QB at least adds a minor bit of intrigue for the game, just wish it wasn't against the Dolphins.
Happy Thanksgiving to all on TJW!! As to Rogers....He essentially is his own OC and will adjust protections and audible and change the play as appropriate. Hackett isn’t necessary. In fact, his stay at Denver and performance with the Jets have highlighted his gross incompetence and complete lack of offensive creativity. What talent he has, he seems incapable of designing plays that play to their strengths or attack defensive weakness. In any event, to all a good Thanksgiving day and hope for, at minimum an improved offensive performance tomorrow!
You're right about Hackett answering questions about his offense. His quote sounded like gobbledygook. It sounded sort of like he wasn't sure how to answer the question then just started talking about offense, in general. Nate is, clearly, a poor bullshitter. 🤣
