Just wanted to send a quick message this morning to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving.
I’m thankful to have so many dedicated readers of TJW. Despite the team being an absolute travesty and the worst current team in North American Sports, most posts get over 2000 unique views daily, which for our little corner of the internet is not too bad at all. So thank you for every read, every comment and every share.
So enjoy this time with your friends and family, enjoy the the football if you choose to watch any. I’m going to try and catch some of that Lions/Bears game from the hotel.
Happy Thanksgiving All!
Thank you David, your warm wishes and blessings are greatly appreciated by all.
You are a true gentleman.
Thanksgiving has evolved over the centuries and years.
It started with the Pilgrims leaving religious persecution in England, landing at Plymouth Rock.
Eventually getting greeted by Samoset, Chief of the Abenaki Sagamore tribe with him saying “ Welcome Englishmen”. He had learned English from English fishermen who fished north of Plymouth.
We know the lore, Pilgrims had a tough go of it initially, their colony almost didn’t survive but with Samoset’s help, they started to prosper.
They feasted on many things including wild Turkeys.
At the start of America the nation, many wanted the Turkey to be our symbol instead of the Eagle. Thank god, cooler heads won out.
Thanksgiving became a national holiday December 26, 1941.
Since then Thanksgiving has spawned into a day with many things associated
Family gatherings, plenty of food, plenty of desserts, drinking,, Uncle Bob sleeping on the couch after dinner, every family has an Uncle Bob.
Thanksgiving Day starts off with the Macy’s Day Parade in NYC even though the parade origin was in Philadelphia started by a department store chain by the name of Gimbels.
Detroit Lions playing a home game around noon on Thanksgiving started in 1934. The Dallas Cowboys started playing a late afternoon game in 1966.
Thanksgiving night games started in 2006.
That’s it my fellow Brigade members.
Thanksgiving in America
Many people on Thanksgiving are forced to take some form of antacid because of overindulgence.
Jet fans not only take antacids because of overindulgence but because of the mere fact that they are Jet fans.
Unfortunately Thanksgiving is the unofficial start of Jet fans off season.
Future draft picks are being discussed while an argument has started over who gets the drum sticks. Free agency is a dessert discussion.
Every 3 to 4 years, who will be the new GM and/HC is the topic as pants belts are loosened as future sleepers are fighting over who sits where and who gets the TV remote.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I hope you got your Thanksgiving Haggish, David.
Thanks for all you do to try to keep us at least slightly sane DWH. Be well.
