Good morning! ☕
At some point, we need to turn the corner on the 2023 season and look towards 2024. You could probably fill a book with the warranted negativity around this team, but we can’t control what they do in the building, all we can do is look to the future and hope that it’s better than the past. Saleh is staying, Hackett is staying, Carter is staying, Douglas is staying, Woody is staying, Zach is probably going and we’re putting our hopes on the shoulders of a Hall of Fame QB who’s just turned 40 and will be coming off major surgery. What could possibly go wrong?
👍 Dan Graziano reports that the Titans are working on a deal to make Bill Callahan their offensive line coach. Callahan who was the Jets assistant Head Coach during the back-to-back AFC Championship appearances under Rex Ryan holds the same position with the Browns but will leave to join his son, new Titans head coach Brian Callahan, in Tennessee. Bill is widely regarded as one of the best if not the best offensive line coach in football.
⚪🔴 In some divisional news, the Patriots are hiring Alex Van Pelt as their offensive coordinator. Van Pelt spent time in Green Bay as Aaron Rodgers QB coach before heading to the Bengals and then the Browns where he acted as offensive coordinator for the last 4 years.
🇨🇦 Everyone’s favourite pre-season QB Chris Streveler signed a one-year deal to head back to the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. I’d say that’s probably his level, and wishing him the best of luck next season.
💥 PFF outlined the potential landing spots for some key wide receivers. Mike Evans was the receiver picked out for the Jets along with the Carolina Panthers. “The New York Jets need more receiving talent opposite Garrett Wilson, and this move is effectively the inverse of the above: Evans takes a bit less but joins Aaron Rodgers as he tries to replicate the Tom Brady run in Tampa.” They also mentioned OBJ as a potential target for the Jets based on what he said last off-season about wanting to play with Aaron Rodgers: “Beckham has mentioned many times that he’d like to play with Aaron Rodgers, and the Jets shadow general manager can hopefully make his first good signing this offseason after a very tough 2023.”
If you’re paying attention to the Senior Bowl, you’ll have heard the name Roman Wilson a few times now. The Michigan receiver continues to stack performances in Mobile and if the Jets decide to go tackle at #10, then they’ll need to identify some wide receivers outside the first round, and Wilson is certainly slated to drop outside the top 32 picks, whether he makes it to the third round is another question entirely.
Here is one positive straight off the bat, Roman Wilson is a member of the National Team coached by Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. That gives the Jets an inside track to better understand the player and person, valuable insights during the pre-draft process.
