Good morning!
Make sure you download the Substack app onto your phones as this Sunday I’ll be opening a live chat during the game for the TJW paid subscriber faithful.
We’ve got Tennessee to deal with and that a wounder animal over there in Nashville. The way they lost in week one would have hurt a lot of pride, and like the Jets they’ll be wanting to bounce back in the worst way. Underestimate any team at your peril, the Bengals learned that the hard way with the Patriots last week.
🟢 Congratulations to Mark Gastineau, Larry Grantham and Boomer Esiason who were all nominated to become members of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2025 as Seniors. Joe Klecko got in that way way last year and it would be great to see some more Jets representation. Do they all deserve it though? I’ll let you guys debate that in the comments.
⚪ Aaron Rodgers met with the media yesterday and tried to calm the nerves of the fanbase ahead of the matchup in Tennessee - “It's never as bad as you think it is and never, unfortunately, as good as it feels at times, There's a lot of stuff to clean up, but I felt like, as I said, after the game, I thought the pass protection was good. I thought we're good on the checkdowns, we just missed some stuff in the run game. And [I] missed a couple of throws that could have kept drives going, and a couple penalties. The long drive was kind of textbook."
🟢 The Jets were pretty limited on offence on Monday, in large part due to the defence not getting off the field. Aaron Rodgers has never had the ball for less time in his entire NFL career, but again, he’s preaching patience: "It's not super frustrating," Rodgers said. "I mean I think the most important thing is for those guys to remember that it's a long season, and we're trying to get the ball, obviously, to everybody. To only have five different guys catch passes, it's not kind of a typical game that I've played in, but, you know, we're on the sideline for a lot of the game, and part of that's our fault, third downs, not converting, three-and-outs, not converting a first, second down. Defensively, we didn't get off the field as much as they would have liked, I'm sure. But in those situations, we got to help our defense out. If it takes 30 [points] to win, we got to score 30. So, it wasn't good enough on our part."
⚪ A massive congratulations to Javon Kinlaw, not only was he the best run defender on Sunday (although that’s not saying a lot), he’s also just welcomed a son into the world.
🟢 Nick Bosa believes that the Minnesota Vikings are a better team than the New York Jets - “This week I think we’re playing a better team. They’re playing better football it looks like… We’re going to have to be better in our techniques. We got away with some things last week, so we have to hone in and not pat ourselves on the back.”
It’s far too early to be looking at team rankings…is what they say. But I’m going to do it anyway. We have one week of game data to look at and here is how the two teams compare so far.
