I’m a big no on Wilson but there is still a hole for backup QB and very weak options. Steelers still waiting on AR to make a decision, as Eddy Murphy once said on SNL during a Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood skit “I’m so glad the bitch is gone”.

Thank you Eddie Murphy

Three rookies signed five to go. UDFA Gus Hartwig has been cut. Gus was a 6’5 312 pound Center out of Purdue, where he played well for four years , had some injuries, was a little underpowered, but was a smart , technically sound Center. Gus was signed in 2025, but an early knee injury , put Gus on IR Last July missing the entire season. Gus had some developmental potential was penciled in early depth charts as the Jets back up Center. Gus is gone , the Jets seemed to have a a new sense of urgency in finding a backup Center. Xavier Newman who has played Guard as well as Center seems to be the logical backup to Myers. The Jets only have 13 Offensive Lineman in camp, which seems like a lot, but consider you are filling 9-10 Roster spots. Cutting Gus , is putting out a Help Wanted sign. Expect some roster churn, with a series of Centers trying out, Jets may have to invest in the position.

Maybe they have someone in their sights to replace him.

That’s the hope

Jauan Jennings WR, a perfect “X” receiver for the Jets in Free Agency was reportedly asking over 20 million, two months ago, signed a one year agreement for 8 million with the Vikings. Mouchey gets points for saying NO.

Russell Wilson stole 10.5 million from the Giants last year. I think Parcells said, if they are talking about retirement, they are retired. There are advantages to signing Wilson, but he is washed up , can be a distraction, and could be expensive, please no.

Wilson was a constant negative presence even when he was winning in Seattle. There were two set of rules laid out Pete Carroll, one set for Wilson, the other for the rest of the franchise.

He walked all over Hackett in Denver, when Payton was hired, he addressed it immediately at his introductory news conference.

Wilson seems to be the type of player Glenn spoke against in his introductory news conference.

He would be wasted cap space.

Maybe this weekend they see what they have in Cook, Zappe & Klubnick ( no pads ). Monday time to get serious about a backup QB. Cooper Rush possibly, Jets playing chicken with the Titans, over Levis, send them a sixth for Levis and a Seventh

Get Levis not Rush, risky but more upside.

Elsewhere, I read that Jennings' contract could be worth up to $13 million this year.

Phil's avatar

But why couldn't we get Jennings for 9 or 10 (Jets tax) :)

On this iteration of the Jets, Jennings wouldn't play. Ideally, they're giving a ton of run to Wilson, Mitchell, and Cooper Jr., with a smattering of opportunities given to Williams and Smith. Yes, Jennings is likely a better player than Mitchell or Cooper (right now), but how much better than just giving those reps to Mitchell, Cooper, Williams, and Smith and allowing that young group to develop?

Spot on, but don't forget Sadiq. He will see a lot of targets as well.

Held firm until after the Draft, interesting to see what offers he turned down.

Jets and RB Breece Hall reached agreement on a 3-year deal worth up to $45.75 million.

JetOrange's avatar

Great news, no distractions, Mouchey got it done, time to go to work. All the draft picks except Cooper ?., Hall signed , the dust still has to settle, time to look at the CAP, and see where we are at.

Mr. Coffee on Sabbatical for seven years ? Two former Jet GM’s working for the Eagles. 31 definitely should have gone to Ponds. 99 for Bailey ?

Craig Collins's avatar

Howie must be trying to destroy the Eagles bringing both Mr. Coffee and JD to the Eagles' personnel dept.

Bailey signed

Packers cut their place kicker

Jonathan S's avatar

Fun fact, almost the same stats last year as the BYU kicker we signed as UDFA

McManus:

18/18 under 40 yards

6/12 over 40 yards

Long 56 yards

32/33 XP

Ferrin:

17/17 under 40 yards

6/13 over 40 yards

long 56 yards

49/49 XP

Go get him, Mougey.

Getting the deal done with Breece is great news!

Random thoughts, is there a Wayne Crebet among the UDFA players. A player who they can’t keep off of the field. Who becomes a starter for ten years.

Hopefully there are no Doug Williams ot, 2nd rounder class of 86 who was cut in training camp or worst yet Christian Hackenburg in this years draft class.

Surprisingly the GM who drafted Hackenburg, Mr Coffee was just hired by the Eagles. Maccagnan was fired in 2019. To show his incompetence, almost every fired NFL GM gets hired by another NFL team almost immediately. Even Idzik was hired immediately by Jacksonville. Supposedly he wanted to become a player agent. I guess that didn’t work out for him. Mr Rozeman, how do you like your coffee.

Maybe # 83 works wonders for Cooper, it did well for George Sauer, Jerome Barkum and Santana Moss.

Jets blew it letting Bailey have #31, his college number, it should have been given to Ponds.

After all of the Ponds Glenn comparisons we have heard since Ponds was drafted. It seemed like a natural.

You would figure with slotted draft positions, more draft picks haven’t been signed league wide, there is really nothing negotiable maybe except how the player is payed. Wasn’t there a recent draft pick who wanted to get payed with Bitcoin.

Some Jets jersey number changes:

Azareye'h Thomas is now No. 1

Jarvis Brownlee is No. 2

Kene Nwangwu is No. 3
