☕ Good morning ☀️
I was going to talk about Jon-Eric Sullivan today as I consider him and Brian Gaine to be two very interesting candidates for the Jets open GM vacancy.
However I’ve switched to Ryan Grigson because there is plenty of chatter that the Jets like the idea of the Grigson/Flores pairing.
I’ve already said that I like the idea of Flores. He made a lot of mistakes in Miami and he’s been open about the lessons he learned. If we can’t have Glenn then Flores would be my choice. But I’m not overly keen on bringing in Ryan Grigson, I’ll explain why.
I’m looking forward to having this hiring cycle behind us so we can start focusing on the team construction for 2025. But you can’t deny that this is a key process for the Jets which is why we’re giving it so much time and column inches.
🟢 The Jets confirmed that they had completed an interview with Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph for the Head Coach position.
🟢 According to the NY Post: “Aaron Glenn, a former Pro Bowl cornerback for the Jets and the current Lions defensive coordinator, has told people the Jets are his first choice if he were to be offered a head coaching position”
🟢 The Jets continue their long-list of interviews, with Packers DC Jeff Hafley set to interview for the position on Friday. He has plenty of DC experience with Green Bay, Ohio State and Head Coaching experience with Boston College.
🟢 Jets interim Head Coach Jeff Ulbrich has interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons open DC job. He was an assistant with the Falcons for a long time so this would make sense for Ulbrich who needs to rebuild following an abysmal run as Head Coach.
🟢 Robert Saleh is expected to interview with the Dallas Cowboys for their Head Coaching position soon. He’s already interviewed with Jacksonville and Las Vegas and has spoken to the 49ers about their DC position which I imagine is the fallback option if he doesn’t get another opportunity as a head coach.
🟢 Sauce Gardner spoke to the official site about how he sees himself as part of the solution to turning this franchise around - "My mental wasn't all the way there in terms of my positivity, like it should have been," he said. "I could have improved when it came to that. I definitely want to be a part of the solution when it comes to turning this organization around, getting us to the playoffs and getting to the Super Bowl. So, I'm definitely going to be better [next season]. In all three of my years, this is the most adversity that we faced as a team. For me individually, all the adversity that we face as a team, I put it on my shoulders. It makes it hard for me to sleep at night even if it's stuff that doesn't have anything to do with me directly. This year has definitely helped me. I've grown a lot going through all of this adversity and now I realize adversity is a gift. It shows you who you truly are and who the ones around you truly are as well."
🟢 Garrett Wilson believes he learned a lot in 2025 and credited WR coach Shawn Jefferson with helping him - "I think the cerebral side of it, and just knowing things that are not just on gameday, but practice week," he said. "Knowing how to manage your body, knowing what you're going to get, how to study film, and having someone like Tae [Davante Adams] in the room and seeing how he goes about his business. Definitely a year that I learned a lot, and it wasn't all for nothing. I feel like, regardless of what the stats would have said to finish, or how our record is, I took a lot away from this season, and I'll be better off."
🟢 Who was the Jets most improved player this season? Well according to PFF it was John Simpson - “The Jets offensive line had one of the lowest pressure rates in the NFL in 2024, even if it did allow the 14th-most sacks in the NFL. However, John Simpson was a big reason the pressure rate was so low. Simpson was impressive in his first season with the Jets after spending one year with the Ravens, as he allowed just 20 pressures on 682 pass-blocking snaps, a 3.4% pressure rate. Simpson had career-high grades across the board, earning a 77.3 overall grade, the 13th highest among guards, and a 79.2 run blocking grade, which also ranked top 10 at the position. He was able to be a sturdy contributor on the interior of the offensive line, along with Alijah Vera-Tucker.”
🟢 Jon-Eric Sullivan and Mike Borgonzi completed their second interviews with the Titans, both are on the Jets radar. The expectation is that the Jets will start the second interview process over the coming days.
It’s been five days since the Jets interviewed Ryan Grigson for their open GM position. Since then the Jets have interviewed several other candidates but as of writing this we’re still no closer to understanding who impressed.
The Tennessee Titans have already reduced their candidate list and started conducting second interviews with a number of strong candidates.
Maybe I’m wrong but considering the Titans interviewed 10 candidates for their GM position and are already onto the next round, their process seems thorough and efficient. Ours is certainly thorough.
Ryan Grigson is a name that keeps coming up in connection with the Jets, mainly as a package deal with Brian Flores. But would Ryan Grigson be a good choice for the Jets?
