☀️ Good Morning ☕
I’m cautiously optimistic.
Not about the 2024 season because that’s dead and buried. We’re just going through the motions hoping that the Jets can salvage some wins and build some confidence.
But about the GM search.
We were promised a comprehensive and exhaustive search, and early signs indicate that’s exactly what we’re going to get.
Right now we have three concrete names with many more to come. Louis Riddick who we’ll get to, Jon Robinson who we spoke about yesterday and Thomas Dimitroff who we’re going to focus on today.
I expect the Jets to interview between 10-15 candidates for this position before all is said and one, so we’re only just getting started.
🟢 The way that Fashanu has stepped into his role at LT gives me great confidence heading into 2025. Here’s what PFF had to say about it: “Fashanu continues to find his rhythm at left tackle. He earned a season-high 80.5 PFF pass-blocking grade against Jacksonville. Perhaps most impressively, he allowed just one hurry in 24 matchups with superstar edge defender Josh Hines-Allen. The Jets will be searching for plenty of answers this offseason, but it appears they may already have one at left tackle.”
⚫ Your record may be who you are, but PFF believes the 4-10 mark on the Jets doesn’t reflect the roster - “Much like the Jaguars, the Jets’ 4-10 mark doesn’t reflect the caliber of talent on the team — on both sides of the ball. Even at 41, Aaron Rodgers has performed well in his first legitimate season as a Jet, with his 78.4 passing grade ranking ninth among qualifying quarterbacks. Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams have both earned 75.5-plus receiving grades, offering Rodgers (or whoever is next year’s man under center) a legitimate one-two punch. Breece Hall (61.5 rushing grade) hasn’t been as excellent as expected, but he thrived in 2022 and 2023. New York’s offensive line is also one of the most improved in football, powered by John Simpson (80.5 overall grade) and Alijah Vera-Tucker (74.9 overall grade).”
🟢 The 33rd team has run a mock draft and they have the Jets selecting CB/WR Travis Hunter - “Another Colorado star lands in the Big Apple as the Jets quickly snatch Travis Hunter up and figure out what to do later. Hunter profiles best at cornerback with his ball skills, and the Jets don't have as pressing of a need for a receiver in the meantime. Plus, Sauce Gardner can help Hunter maximize his talent at the position.”
⚫ The Jets officially confirmed that they have completed their interview with Jon Robinson, who we spoke about yesterday. If you missed that, head below.
🟢 Jaylen Key who the Jets drafted with the last pick of the 2024 draft was signed to the Bengals practice squad last night.
As soon as Joe Douglas was fired, I started making a list of potential GM’s for the Jets. A checklist for TJW. Thomas Dimitroff was the second name I wrote on the list behind Ray Agnew.
Now we have confirmation that the Jets have completed an interview with the former Falcons GM. I thought it would be prudent for me to bring his profile forward, not that I expect the Jets to make any decisions anytime soon.
When you look at the resume that Dimitroff built, it’s hard to not be interested in him being the man selected to turn your franchise around.
His executive career dates back all the way to 1990 when at the age of just 24 he joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders as a Scout coordinator, and culminated in him being hired as the GM of the Atlanta Falcons in 2008.
Let me just quickly run down some of the accolades I marked down next to Dimitroff
