☀️ Good morning! ☕
Just like the Titans/Jags last weekend, the game between the Jets/Jags must be one of the least exciting encounters of the year.
Both teams are eliminated, both teams have severely underwhelmed, neither team is overly exciting to watch. It’s either going to mimic that Titans game last week with a 10-6 score line, or it’s going to be a 34-28 slugfest.
We’ll get through some bits and pieces for that game tomorrow, but today we’re going to continue our dives into potential GM candidates, this time it’s Mike Borgonzi.
Based on all my research so far, here’s where my preference list sits. I’ve hyperlinked them all so if you’re a new subscriber you can go back and ready the profiles of each. Where will Borgonzi sit amongst the group? You’ll find out at the bottom.
🟢 Bad news for Irvin Charles and the Jets. It was confirmed that the Jets special teams ace tore his ACL in Sunday’s game. That’s a really tough break for Charles who is one of the few Jets who can say he had a good year in 2024. ACL’s can take between 9-12 months to recover from post surgery, so there’s a good chance that Charles misses a good portion of the 2025 season. In a corresponding move the jets signed DB Jaylin Simpson to the 53-man roster from the Colts’ practice squad.
⚫ Field Yates had his first mock draft out yesterday and he had the Jets taking a DT in Mason Graham…a move that I would absolutely love. “The Jets' draft-day direction will be an interesting storyline to follow. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers' future is uncertain, but enough young core players are in place that a new GM and coach might not view this as a rebuild, but instead a team that can make strides in a hurry. Defensive tackle figures to be an issue, and Graham is a hand-in-glove fit for any defense given his versatility and explosive skill set. He is powerful, dynamic getting off the ball, instinctive and relentless. Graham and Quinnen Williams would form quite a duo.”
🟢 The Jets offensive line is now ranked as the 16th best unit heading into this weeks game according to PFF. For long stretches this year it’s been inside the top-10, but much like the Jets season, it’s been sinking recently: “Second-year center Joe Tippmann somewhat struggled in pass protection against the Dolphins. While Tippmann did not allow more than two pressures in a game over the first 13 weeks, he gave up three — one sack, one quarterback hit and one quarterback hurry — in the Jets’ loss to Miami.”
⚫ PFF also ranked the best free agency signings of the 2024 off-season and the Jets signing of John Simpson came in at #16 - “There hasn’t been much to write home about for the Jets' offense in 2024, but Simpson has been an undeniable silver lining. After signing a two-year, $12 million deal to head to the Big Apple, Simpson has turned in career-high PFF grades in run blocking (79.7) and pass blocking (77.4), allowing only 12 pressures and one sack this season. Simpson quietly ranks as the ninth-best guard in football (minimum 300 snaps) and offers stability on a team set to face countless questions this offseason.”
When you’re looking to become a consistent winner, it’s probably a good idea to look to a consistent winner for your General Manager.
