Oh and also...as a Knicks and Rangers fan, LETS GO!

That weekend could not have gone any better.

Jets send Zack Wilson to Denver for a pick swap. Jet sending a seventh 256, obtaining a sixth ( 204 ? ) . Jets picking up part of the salary, but get some minuscule Cap relief.

Hopefully the Bowers talk is a smokescreen and that the Jets and the Colts have a handshake on a deal.

Bower’s talents would be wasted here because Hackett doesn’t have the necessary skill it takes draw up plays and schemes. The fact that the Jets can’t draft certain players due to the mediocrity of the coaching staff is a Johnson legacy of total organizational

Incompetency.

This coming Saturday at 12 noon , fans of all 32 NFL teams will collectively weigh a sigh of relief.

Two other important times this coming week for Jet fans only should be approximately 9pm Thursday and 7:30 pm on Friday.

Since about mid December, mock drafts started turning up on the internet. As fans of 31 teams ( intelligentJet fans knew their season was over when Rodgers went down on 9/11) were hoping their team would be making the playoffs, bloggers were starting their mock madness.

As playoff teams competed, the mocks increased.

As soon as the Chiefs were crowned champs, mock drafts madness started at a vicious pace.

There was once a time that fans would be happy to see the mocks, but as the mock industry has grown, the fan bases have become weary of them, way too many. Wayne too many wrong.

Ridiculous conclusions, trades that make absolutely no sense, basically square pegs were being put into round holes. New Mocks turning up on the internet faster than robo calls selling solar panels on your phone.

It is totally amazing that anyone would have the time and knowledge to mock all 257 draft slots plus have about 4-5 first round trades included.

You would think an individual with such futuristic insight would rather be making millions on the stock market.

It has become traditional with some of these bloggers to come out with mocks after the first round is completed,

Then they continue their madness Friday night with mocks of the players not selected between Thursday’s first round and Fridays 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Thusly when the 4th round starts noon on Saturday, the mock season is finally over, finished. Fans everywhere will say thank god it’s over.

I’m sure there could be an industrious blogger who might publish UNDFA signings predictions on Monday. It won’t be a Kiper or Jeremiah maybe an individual like Sebastian the Jet fan from Bensonhurst might attempt that madness.

Times this week, important to Jet fans.

This Thursday at approximately 9pm, the football world should know who the Jets selected. Only a trade down will extend the agony to hopefully around 9:15-9:30.

Will it be a wide receiver, Bowers or an offensive tackle, at this point all we Jets fans can hope for is they get it right. Any selection that doesn’t meet the above positions, will be greeted by the sound of thousands of tv remotes bouncing off of Jet fans walls.

Friday at approximately 7:30 pm, the Green Bay Packers will be making a second round pick using the pick they obtained from the Jets in the Rodgers trade fiasco. Thusly completing the Rodgers trade.

Presently the Rodgers trade is the worst trade in Jets history. It is the Anti Jamal Adams trade. While JD fleeced the Seahawks in the Adams trade, Green Bay picked the Jets pocket in the Rodgers deal. The Jets in a deal where neither team had leverage panicked the week before the draft and surrendered way too many assets for a 39 year old quarterback.

There was no way Rodgers would be playing in Green Bay in 2023.

The situation then resembles the present situation between Zach Wilson and the Jets. But the Jets capitulated, they raised the white flag.

Rodgers injury turned a terrible trade into a catastrophic year for the team and its fan base.

The Packers received a switch of first rounders, a 2023 second rounder ( which the Jets obtained by trading Elijah Moore and a third rounder to Cleveland for ) and the Jets 2024 second rounder which is basically a first rounder due to the depth of this draft.

So the trade cost the Jets a switch of first rounders, 2-2s, a 3 and Elijah Moore.

The return was 4 plays from Rodgers and Nate Hackett with his prevent offense. You could also add the outstanding performances from the Jets Lambeau Leapers Club of Lazard, Cobb, Amos, Boyle and Turnstile Turner.

Aside from the Denis Byrd injury, the Rodgers injury was the worst in Jets history. Jet fans were both stunned and numbed for days.

The only thing that could turn the negative dynamic of the Rodgers trade is an AFC East championship and an appearance in the AFC championship game. Anything less than then that would once again say “ Same Old Jets” and probably say bye bye or sayonara or Hasta la vesta to JD and Saleh.

The trials and tribulations of being a Jet fan, it never ends.

Attention!! Attention, the New York Jets have just announced that available for a limited time, limited supplies available Official NY Jets Draft Week TV remotes.

These quality remotes made in Myanmar, Asia are Green with white trim embossed with the new Jet insignia are a must have for all Jet fan remote throwers.

They are also adorned with a collage of previous Jet first round disasters such as Blair Thomas, Roger Vick, Ron Faurot, Vern “ the Ghoul” Gholston and Dee Millner.

Two hours before the Jets make their pick, study the collage, it will help get your arm ready.

They are also guaranteed to withstand up to 4 rounds or 4 terrible picks of throws.

For the low price of $19.69 plus shipping and handling, be prepared for Draft week.

Woody’s operators are waiting.

I would add the injuries to Vinny (Achilles) and Chad ( shoulder) to your worst ever injury list.

Expand full comment

While Vinnie’s injury was also devastating and Chad’s injury basically career changing, Rodgers injury after 5 months of 24/7 hoop a la struck with such swiftness the fan base reacted as if a loved one passed away. There was numbness in Jet land.

It was if the Titanic and the Hindenburg went down at the same time.

No doubt the Mock Drafters will have a "Super Early 2025 Mock Draft" queued up the minute the draft ends. Hackett has never seemed completely incapable of putting together a competent offense. It felt like it was more an issue of him being completely unable to adjust his offense once his best player goes down. I'd bet he puts together an, at least, average offense this year. Hopefully they quit the musical chairs shit on the offensive line.

Expand full comment

Well Danny Boy we usually agree but I’m not sure Hackett is qualified to run a NFL tams offense. Between his Denver shit show and what we saw last year I can’t say I’m confident. Nice to see we unloaded Zach today!

Expand full comment

Definitely not confident, but I think there is something to his success in Green Bay. It's possible that success was more to do with the excellent support system he had around him. He had a great front office, a well established offensive line, a HOF-caliber QB, etc. The stories about his conduct in the actual building (not during games) was alarming. Seeing Zach no longer on the team makes me feel weightless. Thank heavens.

I believe we will have to pray that our QB savant still has some magic left and will prove that Hackenberg is unnecessary. From my mouth to gods ears.

I'm all in on a tackle - there's got to be a decent one left at 10. When you've got a 40-year-old QB coming off a snapped achilles, signing two 33-year-olds with injury histories on one-year-contracts is a big risk. Plus when the dust has settled on the Rodgers win-now plan, you'll still have the foundation of a decent offense with Tippman, AVT, Garrett, Breece and others.

Bowers does look great, but Conklin managed 60 receptions with average QB play, he could markedly improve with Rodgers at the controls. As long as Rodgers is protected...

Expand full comment

hey Ron! Hey JetsWay Faithful!

Yeah, I agree - actually hope that Trader Joe swings a trade-down to mid-teens, I think a very good starter quality OT can be had there (Latham, Mims, etc) and we need the extra pics, likely a 3, for more talent. if it's a 3, that opens up getting another OT, or a QB, and prob a DT like David sez.

This is always an exciting time, as long as Kyle Brady's name isn't called (... again and again, like I sometimes have nightmares of...)

Mims would be kind of fun. I do hope they trade down because then you get more picks! More fun! A guy like Mims feels like a solid way to go: lots of room to develop, probably won't be ready right away, probably scares teams away given how little he has started.

I posted the following yesterday/last night on the last thread, but I think maybe only Daniel saw it, so I'm re-posting it here today. As David said, it could be smoke or a team trying to get Nabers to drop. I trust the guy who posted this. I know him pretty well and he knows Tony Pauline and he knew Joel Buchsbaum who was perhaps the best and most knowledgeable draftnik ever.

Take the following information with a grain of salt, but on another Jets fan site a poster I know and trust posted the following. I don't know if I trust Pauline, however. If Pauline is correct about the following regarding Nabers, I'd take him off of my board entirely.

Brief chat w Tony last night. Confirmed the "diva issues" about Nabers.

1. Busted w a gun during Mardi Gras. Plead down, promised ot never carry a handgun again and charges were dropped.

2. Punched a teammate in the jaw

3. Refused to get up at 9am during combine and "was a real bitch" the entire time there.

4. Refused to do certain things bec "MH Jr didnt have to do them so why do I?"

5. May have assaulted a girl on campus that was covered up.

Guys...this guy scares the sh*t out of me. Sometimes talent isnt enough to overcome personality. See OBJ, Diggs and Antonio Brown as great examples.

Other small tidbits:

1. Rumors swirling that Jets leaning towards OLman at 10

2. Doesnt think Fuaga can play LT but can play OG.

3. Made a good pt about Fanuata (Fautanu)...Penix is a lefty so technically Rosengarten was protecting his blind side

4. LOVES Fanashu (Fashanu) and thinks that should be the Jets pick at 10 unless Odunze falls to them

5. Very high on Bowers...says he was never really asked to block at GA but has ability to. Thinks he may not get to 10 anyway.

6. Rumor he heard was Pats moving down to 11 and taking Pennix there

Expand full comment

This was good stuff! Count me out on Nabers. I'm low-key thinking Bowers isn't even on the board when the Jets pick. Fautanu and Fashanu would be cool. I really like Fautanu, among the first round offensive linemen. Aside from my obsession with Graham Barton, he's probably my next unhealthy sports obsession. The dude is nasty.

If what you heard is true, his stock may plummet draft-wise, but there are always some teams who will look the other way and just draft him. I hope the Jets war room has a big "No Fuckin' Way" next to his name. And if anyone is weak enough to grab him early, just remember Bill Burr, "You brought a murderer into the house (talking about his wife getting a pit bull, lol)".

If it’s out there that the Patriots will take Penix at 11, could help the Jets, in a trade down scenario, and get overpaid

Naber is the headline. The Patriots screwed us last year with their trade with the Steelers, Pittsburgh taking the OT. Would laugh my ass off if the Jets helped facilitate a deal that Jumped the Patriots, and they lost their QB at 10

I would rather Pratt. They cant take a guy that wil never play in the NFL again (Hackenburg, Petty, Clemons etc )

Steve, ditto! Not a big fan of Jordan Travis who has a tad below average arm strength. After Zach I’m not obsessed with arm strength but I have sen the need for at least average arm strength because playing so many games on the windy cold conditions we see in Buffalo, NE and at Met Life it can be a problem not being able to throw effectively.

I think a lot of teams are looking for the next Mahomes and they see Jordan Travis, and other similar type QB's as someone with the same qualities. I think it's a pipe dream, because it's not just Mahomes' physical talent, but he seems to have a Cray supercomputer in his head giving him the wherewithal to do what he does with such regularity. When you talk about money QB's, Mahomes is up there with some of the real greats of the game who find a way to win no matter what. Bart Starr comes to mind immediately, as does Joe Montana and of course Tom Brady.

Exactly Mike- i think that is what the jets with with Wilson - thought they were geeting a Mahomes type. Except they didnt let him sit and learn. However, even wih that he definitly did not have that cray superomputer. I am not knocking the guy but that is what they think they drfated - my opinion.

I agree. I don't know whether or not sitting and learning would have done any good, but who knows. And when you really look at his college career, it just wasn't there, his success was based on weak competition and having a really good o-line. But the points are all moot.

Thursday will be exciting, drama from the third pick on , grab your popcorn 🍿, I’m a trade down OT guy, Like Fautanu big time. On board with taking Olu at 10, very curious to watch his draft stock since January. The players are at the facility, hoping that we get a couple of extensions or restructures that will create some CAP space. Jets our currently 31st in CAP space, with about 1.2 million, not enough to sign our draft picks. Please don’t trade JFM. Looking to sign a couple of cheap vets for depth. McGovern for the Offensive line, looking at Joshua Kelley as a veteran minimum RB, and a WR depending on who we draft. Friday, we only have 72, there maybe Defensive Value here, but pounding the Table for a WR. Remote is in bubble wrap. Saturday, scour the availables, we have two fourth round picks, 185 a sixth round pick, and finally two seventh round picks at the end of the draft. Sunday UNDFA’s begins. Are you ready ?

Expand full comment

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on the Jets signing McGovern and Kelley. For one thing, they don't have the money. More importantly, McGovern was the worst or one of the worst Centers statistically in the NFL last season. There's no way I want him back. He was a good teammate and a good Jet, but not a good player. I had to look up Joshua Kelley as I had never even heard of him. His stats don't look good enough for him to be among the 3 RBs the Jets keep on the roster. I'd much rather they draft a RB in the 4th round.

I don't want them to trade JFM, either, but the reality is that they may have to to get the necessary cap space to sign their rookie draft picks, and they probably could get a decent mid-round pick for him at the least. Maybe they pair him with one of their 4th round picks and get a 2nd round pick from someone. Of course if they did, they'd probably turn around and draft another edge, not a WR or OL.

If the Jets take an OL in the 1st round as I believe they should, then #72 had better be a WR if they aren't able to acquire a 2nd round pick. I'm hoping that they will trade either their 1st or 2nd round pick in 2025 along with one of their 4th round picks to get a 2nd round pick. If they do, then they can take a better WR prospect in the 2nd round and then take a DT or S in the 3rd round if they think they have to do so. Then hopefully, they draft a RB in the 4th round, and can grab some STers with their 6th and 7th round picks.

Expand full comment

We agree that the Jets need to create CAP room . We disagree on the two vet minimum players of McGovern & Kelley. You’re correct, Kelley has had minimal numbers with the Chargers, but he is an excellent receiver, can pass block, and run inside. Joshua was a fourth round pick after two one thousand yard seasons with UCLA, his lack of numbers are due in part to injuries in 2021 & 2022..

Expand full comment

That's fair. No one said that we always have to agree. At least both should be cheap. Thanks for the additional info on Kelley, that makes him sound better, but my question with Kelley, however, is this, "Perish the thought, but if Breece were to go down with another injury and have to miss 4-5 games, would the rushing attack vanish with only Kelley and Abanikanda?"

Expand full comment

Cheap is imperative, don’t see many alternatives, Jets seem to have waited too long, missed the boat. Not sure I want to do Zeke at 5 million

Expand full comment

I agree on all accounts. What do you think of Audric Estimé, Jaylen Wright, Braelon Allen, and Ray Davis?

Expand full comment

Looking for a tough inside runner, Estime and Allen seem to be the guys. Allen seems to have difficulty running out of the shotgun, 240 pound backs don’t seem to have a lot of success in the NFL, tell that to Derrick Henry

Ray has a really cool story. He's one of those guys you feel good about betting on

Maybe they feel really good about Jermaine Johnson taking over the Franklin-Myers role. I also wonder how they feel about Clemons. He failed to establish a presence on the interior as a bulked up version of himself. I wonder if they're going to move him back outside and, perhaps, trust him to take a certain percentage of those Franklin-Myers reps. It's hard to say, of course. I'd, low key, love to see them ship out that third rounder for a 4, 5, 6 combination.

Hey JetOrange!

bud, we talk about WR, but what do you think, now that AR will be in full camp again, about Brownlee, Gipson and also Taylor, who's quite the speed guy, developing with him? AR likes putting the rock downfield in a big way, and Malik can def stretch out the field.

Of course, if by some stroke of luck, Odunze is avail at 10, then I say screw the trade-down, unless Trader Joe can get a Kings Ransom for him, and maybe even get back into the 2nd round for it.

Cause as good as these top three WRs are, we really really need extra security on the O-Line - those effin' injuries last year still keep me up at night, in a sweat...

CGVet

Expand full comment

I think you made an important point. The Jets approach in the draft on Wide Receivers, could be dictated, by how the Jets believe Rodgers can utilize Brownlee & Gipson ? The bigger question is can Rodgers resurrect the career of Allan Lazard ? This Jets Offense is a run first offense where Lazard could have a role, but he needs to get separation, and catch the ball. Malik Taylor runs a 4.46 , is 6’1 and 220 pounds, is a deep threat, caught a 57 yard bomb front Zack in the pre season, but spent the year on the practice squad, after spending three years primarily on the Green Bay practice squad. Malik has 9 career Receptions, but there is value working on a PS, and Rogers could make him a productive player. There could be hope for Taylor if he loses 25 pounds and reports at 195, with some new found quickness, the guy doesn’t play specials so he has to be an outstanding WR.

Expand full comment

I'm curious why you think Taylor needs to lose 25 pounds. He never looked fat or overweight to me, and his speed is fine. How easy/possible is it to lose 25 lbs of muscle?

Expand full comment

Needs to get quicker or stronger, four years on the Practice Squad, Malik needs to do something to break through. Jets have put him in the slot, currently your competition is an UNDFA. Taylor needs to improve his routes, release package, and develop a chemistry with Rodgers. Malik is running out of time, he needs to reinvent himself, the WR’s that I have seen that have made a jump, got a tad quicker by losing a little weight.. But he could get stronger and be the Next Quincy Enunwa, but he needs to do something.

Thoughts on the QB pick - I'm intrigued about it. I am an FSU fan and watched the majority of games Travis played in. He's small and unless he bulks up, it's going to be rough road for him in the NFL. I tend to be overly skeptical because I don't like looking through rose colored glasses. That said, I'll give him this - he learned the FSU offense and played well within it's confines, although there were throws he'd like to have back. QBs can have sick physical traits, but those with the ability to learn quickly are in short supply. This backs up David's comment about being a developmental prospect, but I think that's right up his alley. He's got to recover from his injury last year, but I'd be excited to see if it would work out.

Expand full comment

Great, albeit short article today, David. Safe travels, and have a great time!

I love your draft projections! I hope that you're right about the Jets not taking Bowers, taking an OT in round 1, and trading Zach, both for the Jets' sake and his sake. I'm torn between Travis and Pratt, but hope that they will take one of them, rather than Leary or Hartmann. I hope that you're wrong about the Jets taking a DT, but fear that you aren't for the reasons you listed. I expect that they will draft at least one, if not two defensive players, Again, I think S is a much bigger need than DT at this point in time. If they do take Sweat or Kris Jenkins I wouldn't hate it. I'd rather they take someone like Khristian Boyd in the 6th round if he falls that far.

This is funny, but Bobber points out the absurdity of the Draft Industry, and how it has been promoted into an extravaganza. At one time the draft was held in a ballroom of a New York Hotel, with 100 fans, it evolved and moved to the Felt Forum where there were two to three thousand on the first day, but only 20 of us stayed for day three, scattered around this immense facility, watching them announcing unknown seventh round picks.

Expand full comment

I could see the draft being turned into a big event because supposedly every team and fan base are winners that day. The draft is big business media wise. Draft day hats and shirts, draft day tv remotes.

Again, the NFL overdoes it.

Bands, Green room, Red Carpet, 250,000 fans squeezed into a secure area, guest pick announcers.

Kyle Stickles, Thank you thank you Mr Goodell. I'd also like to thank the NFL. The New York Jets. And the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeastern New York for giving me this opportunity tonight.

The exuberance he showed on the stage was fantastic for him and Jet fans everywhere. Unfortunately his dynamic energy crushed when he said the name Will McDonald.

Probably the best draft of all time was the Covid draft. Goodell in his basement announcing picks, JD and his family celebrating in his basement. ( Who did the Jets take)

No BS just picks, video, remote interviews.

You mentioned the draft in the Felt Forum, mostly every year, the Jet faithful in attendance, who waited in line for hours, their hopes crushed by a Kyle Brady pick or a Roger Vick pick.

While fans of other teams would cheer for their teams selections, Jet fans after the pick would yell in unison, as if they practiced it, WHO, what then would be followed by an oh my god or this can’t be happening or are they f**cking kidding me.

The one Jet fan in the horizontal striped burgundy and yellow shirt when asked in the gallery by the ESPN reporter his thoughts on the Jets taking O’Brien over Marino, his thoughts “ evidently the Jets know something that the fans up here don’t know”. Sorry loyal Jet fan, the Jets fans everywhere knew more than the Jets did that time.

Yes, it has gotten so out of hand, but give the Devil( NFL) his due.

The power of the NFL has made the day the schedules are announced a big media event.

multiple 3 hour shows that night dissecting every game Ad infinitum3-4-5 announcers predicting win- lost records. Who each team is beating, a fools redundancy.

The NFL has made the month of May, important. Following the schedule release, thousands and thousand of calls and inquiries about game tickets, plane tickets, hotel rooms and car rentals. Jet fans on their computers searching to watch the Jets play in …….. The US economy takes a positive hit.

"Among the stories Belichick told about Joel was trying to hire him when he was the head coach at Cleveland and after he was hired by New England," McClain writes of the service that was held after Buchsbaum died. "As Belichick explained, Joel politely declined, saying he felt like he worked for every team as long as he was at PFW and covered the league.

"For those of you who never got to hear or read Buchsbaum, here's the ultimate compliment I can pay him. We all know how super-secret Belichick is. At the service in Indianapolis, Belichick told a story that showed how much respect he had for Joel's personnel acumen.

"Belichick said every year, the day before the draft, he called Joel and disclosed his draft board. Belichick said he actually made a few changes now and then based on Joel's evaluations.

"On Wednesday, I seriously doubt Belichick is going to be calling any of the current draftniks and revealing his draft board to get their opinion."
