look, I gotta tell ya, I actually like the Bills because in my experience, they've always been great fans of football FIRST, then of team. I have some friendly acquaintances that are Bills fans and we have the best in-depth talks/analyses about our teams, about football, discussing real strengths and weaknesses together. I was rootin' for them in last year's playoffs, as I like Josh Allen and think he's a great young man, an example.
That being said, when a Bills fan sez that Buffalo is "... the only team that actually plays in New York..." - I have no problem finishing the sentence for him; "... that's never won a Super Bowl."
(insert wickedly mischievous grin here hahahahaha)
As one of the quietest off seasons in recent Jets history reaches its end, there is genuine hope in Jet land that this season could be special.
Buffalo should be down after all of their roster decisions and Miami has yet to learn how to win in 20-30 degree weather.
Schedule wise, do too the machinations of the NFL schedule maker while the Jets will be facing the Steelers, Broncos and Vikings, the Bills will have to face the Ravens, Chiefs and Lions.
Starting with Thanksgiving night in Lambeau Field, the Dolphins last 6 games will be against the Packers, home against the Jets, away at Texas, home against the Niners and then away against Cleveland in a night affair and a visit to the Jersey meadowlands to end the season in a possible schedule TBD situation.
I’m sure based on their history the Fins will really be enjoying a balmy December night game in Cleveland and a possible January night game in wind swept New Jersey.
Again the most important phrase for this coming Jet season will be “ stay healthy”, while all teams have injuries, the Jet injuries to the quarterback and offensive line position the last two years have been devastating. Hopefully the dark cloud of injuries will hover over another team.
Maybe just once, hopefully this year, the Brigade will not have to sharpen their pitchforks or add new straw to their Torches.
Instead of standing in the glow of their pitchforks, the Brigade will basque in the glow of a successful season and playoff run.
A large part of the Bills Offense will go through the TE’s, Kincaid & Knox, very curious to see how effective they will be without Diggs. Great matchup with our new Safety Group. Diggs will make 22.5 with the Texans this year, he is 31, I like Gabe Davis, has upside at 25, but 3 years 39 million is a little steep, Gabe IMHO is not a 13 million dollar a year WR. Collectively, Mack Collins who had 57 catches in 2022, MVS, one of Rodgers favorite WR’s, and veteran Curtis Samuals, will make together about 5 million. Stunned at the dollar valuations of WR’s at both ends of the spectrum. I think Buffalo got it right, but it’s so true that quantity over quality rarely works.
The Bills will probably still be the team to beat in the AFC East. Miami isn't, despite their explosiveness and all of the sexy names on their roster, a consistently good team. The Bills, under Sean McDermott, are rocksteady. The turnover on their roster is less concerning than it seems. The most concerning losses are in their secondary. Replacing both of their longtime starting safeties in the same offseason is tough. They have one dude on the roster from last season (Taylor Rapp) who will fill some of that void. I suppose Damar Hamlin could stand out, but it's more feel-good story than anything else, at this point. Mike Edwards is tough and has experience, so that'll help. It'll be a step back for that unit. Losing Morse at the pivot hurts them, but the rest of their offensive line is pretty good. They also all started 90+ percent of their snaps last season. A new center is easier to insert if nothing around the center changes, especially with such a good QB in place. Of note is how long they've been running this offensive system. It was installed by Brian Daboll since before Josh Allen was even drafted. Daboll's quarterbacks coach? It was Ken Dorsey, who was the offensive coordinator since Daboll left. Dorsey, you'll remember, was fired midseason last year. The guy that took his place was Joe Brady (formerly the hot young name in offensive coordinator circles; was the OC for those disastrous Panthers teams before he got fired and before that was the brains behind the explosive LSU offenses), who had been the quarterbacks coach the previous two years. What I'm emphasizing, if it wasn't clear, is CONSISTENCY.
Regarding the receiver overhaul; I'm less concerned that they lost Diggs than your average bear. Diggs, while an elite receiver at his peak, had lost some of his luster. He is still a VERY good receiver who they are hoping to replace with a number of miscellaneous (yet quite talented in their own right) dudes. Khalil Shakir probably gets a lot more targets as a slot target. Mack Hollins is a pretty underrated receiver, but he also worked the slot. Curtis Samuel was always more appealing on paper than he ever was in real life, but he's still a problem with the ball in his hands. Replacing Gabe Davis with MVS sounds about right. They're roughly the same player. They, essentially, sent the guy deep on most plays. This will be closer to a push, in terms of overall talent out and in, than most people might suspect.
Do NYC people think of Buffalo more like northern Pennsylvania than NY? Honestly, it might as well be in Ontario for as far away from NYC as it is.
Greetings from beautiful Clinton Corners NY. Small town USA (2,223 souls) 😂 Interesting we started today with the Devante Adams chatter. I’m just not feel’n it! Unless he comes out and requests a trade to the Jets the Raiders have little to no reason to trade him. Certainly not at this time. If they are stinking it up near the trade deadline they can put him up to the highest bidder to maximize his return value. He has an opt out for next season so he’s really holding all the cards 🃏 at this point. I’m not gonna sell the Bills short at this point because as players have come and gone year after year they seem to always find a way. The Dolphins will be the Dolphins. Win a bunch of early games and put up some outrageous stats only to fail in December. The season finally if NJ should be very interesting if all the key pieces are still intact at that time. Good to see the band back together here. It’s been a long hot summer in upstate NY. 😂
Ha, oh you're absolutely right. They're the team to beat until they're no longer the team to beat, which is also when another team wins the division.
2,223 souls is huge in comparison to my little hamlet of English countryside, 488 people in the last consensus in 2021. Strange moving here from the city, even if the city is tiny in comparison to NY!
It's going to be nice to get back to a more normal routine!
David, Ron lives in a hamlet. His neighbors are trees, squirrels and deer. He also isn’t that far from Rip Van Winkle and Ichabod Crane country. Though not proficient in lawn bowling, he is a top notch golfer
I agree with you on both points on. All this nonsensical talk about an Adams trade is just getting tedious. And the fact that he carries a $25 million cap hit makes it even more unlikely and the Raiders will want a premium pick out of the deal that the Jets will sorely need after this season because no one knows if Smith or Moses will be around for 2025. As for what Boomer has predicted, you have to take it with all of the salt that remains in the mines in the state of Louisiana, .lol.
As far as the Bills are concerned, you have to look at them as the front-runner for the division title despite all the movement that took place. But I think the Jets will have a solid shot at dethroning them.
Great to have another edition! Excellent analysis of the Bills and division, David. Let's hope that you are right.
Thanks for the info about the Jets Scouting Dept. talking about Travis. I will look forward to listening to that!
I have mixed feelings on adding Davante Adams. On the field, of course I would love it, but capwise it will be a nightmare, as well as whatever the Jets have to give up to get him. I hope it doesn't happen. What if Rodgers gets hurt again or plays like a 41 year-old QB?
hey bruh!

Have to disagree - Bills fans are arrogant and have no reason to be and they dont play in NY . Ive grown to haet the Bills - frankly i'm sick of them.

I agree that Buffalo's offense will probably switch to similar to the Pats' scheme when they had Gronk and the murderer.
Mornin' ya'll!

Good piece ! Seems about right for the Diviison order of finish
Has Corley signed yet? If not, will he hold out, or will he practice? I'm sure hoping that he signs very soon so he doesn't miss any time.
He's not signed yet. Not sure why, but I feel it gets done either Wednesday or Thursday
