Yikes on Brownlee. Buffalo is so depleted at WR. Makes sense. Time to focus on Smith, who looks tremendous.
David, you could’t be more right on Diana Russini. She comes from the Colin Cowherd tree of hatred toward Aaron. She is the source for much of his negative Aaron material. They feed off each other. When she is on his show, it is sickening. Perfect response - cancel the Athletic - it’s a political agenda rag disguised as sports journalism.
David, well, so much for Brownlee on the practice squad. Just read where our new roster poaching nemesis those Buffalo Bill just snagged him. I have been a Brownlee supporter but I think it was obvious that Brandon Smith had a better summer. I Recall reading Brownlee’s scouting reports and his speed and quickness were red flags. Watching him play it was obvious he was rarely able to get open. A lot of 50-50 balls to him ended up more like 30-70 balls that fell incomplete. Smith on the other hand came down with every ball thrown his way. So I’m good.
Reportedly the Jets have signed Jason Brownllee to their Practice Squad. Hopefully, Jason extorted a few bucks out of the Jets, dedicated UNDFA’s deserve anything they can get in negotiations. In the corresponding move Jets cut WR Lance McCutchen from the PS.
Although applauded the waiver wire acquisition of TE Brenden Bates, the potential loss of Jason Brownlee was disturbing. Bates had a good preseason provides a physical blocking presence as an in-line TE or FB, which could add to the running game. We may see his true value when Yeboah gets off IR. The Jets are pretty thin at WR, they seem to have reserved a spot for a consistent pass catching WR on the 53. Until then Brownlee and Brandon Smith will compete on the Practice Squad for this promotion to the varsity, a very healthy competition. Very glad to have Jason back.
Sorry that you had to get dragged around a chocolate factory, but turnabout is fair play!!! LOL Hope you're enjoying your trip, David!
I liked JD's comments about last year. I have to give JD kudos for adding high-character players who don't quit, who love football, and who have strong work ethics, and Saleh for keeping the team focused and together. Things could have easily gone south. When Rodgers went down, Saleh and the whole team could have gone into a shell like Parcells did when Vinny tore his achilles tendon in the 1st game of the 1999 season. They could have given up, and gone through the motions like Lazard seemingly did, but to their credit, Lazard seems to be the only one who gave up. They kept fighting and trying hard. I think that adversity and that attitude brought them closer together and will help them this season.
David, you are 1000% correct about "The Unathletic". Colin Cowflop and his sidekick Russini are about as toxic as you can find in that oftentimes-foul stew that is the sports media. Nothing of any real importance is excreted from that area.
As far as Cine goes, no big deal. He probably did himself a disservice but that's his business. Just put him in the rear-view mirror. There's a strong possibility that his injury, gruesome as it was, has permanently affected his career, from both a physical and mental aspect.
I was never really impressed by Brownlee, he seemed like a David Clowney clone from the beginning. He just wasn't consistent enough for me, a practice warrior who couldn't transfer that to actual game conditions. Brandon Smith may be another of that type, but sure as hell impressed me more than Brownlee, especially on contested catches.
Enjoy the remainder of your time in Cologne before the wheels really start turning.
I have mentioned numerous times unlike many posters here, I know nothing about player evaluation, player skills, schemes etc.
I am probably the Brigade’s Dunce.
I notice that a few times when Brandon Smiths name is mentioned the pushback is his speed.
I know you can’t teach speed but the Turk’s symbolic graveyard is full of players who had great speed but either didn’t know how to use it or simply couldn’t catch a NFL thrown ball.
On the other hand, there have been excellent wide receivers who were considered slow but were great tacticians who knew routes, defenses, how to use their bodies, use the sidelines.
They have played in many NFL seasons.
Some have actually made the HOF
I might be wrong on this but Steve Largent rings a bell.
Hopefully the Jets wide receiver’s room can avoid injury.
But if bad luck happens maybe Smith could show if he has it.
True and good points. In addition to Steve Largent, you might also know the name Jerry Rice. His 40 times were not great, I think they were close to Smith's, but I believe that one can find his name and bust in Canton, and not at the bus station, either. That said, that was a different era in the NFL, speed is perhaps more important than it's ever been in the game.
I hope that Smith can develop and contribute. That would be awesome! I just fear that he's not going to be able to get open and be as successful on contested catches vs starters as he was against 3rd-5th stringers.
Guten nachmittag herr Hupton and guten morgen to the Torch and Pitchfork Brigade.
Hopefully Gang Green will show Cine what a mistake he made by thumping the Vikings in David’s backyard on October 6th. Supposedly our fearless leader will be there sitting in the stands wearing his #3 Bobby Howfield jersey. Howfield the only player in Jet history born in Britain.
Aside from minor adjustments to the 53 man roster, presently the one big remaining issue is Where’s Waldo#7.
A few questions about the situation,
1) If and when he reports and is added to the roster who will be the sacrificial lamb that he replaces.
2) Does he pull a Lev’on Bell and sit out the season.
3) If he does sit out the season, can McDonald, McGregor and Watts replace Huff’s production or the supposed Waldo#7’s production.
4) It is safe to say that most Jet fans are tired of his act and couldn’t care less if he is here. Not that any Jet fan could care less, What ever monetary adjustment the Jets made in April probably has disappeared thru the fines he has incurred.
Lastly, unbeknown to the Brigade, rumor has it that David has been in conversations with a manufacturer to produce authentic Torch and Pitchfork Brigade Super Bowl beer steins.
They will be produced when and if the Jets win a Super Bowl.
One side of the stein will commentate Super Bowl 3 and the other side will honor Super Bowl ?
Pre orders will be accepted after the playoff brackets are announced in January 2025.
So fans, cheer your team on to victory and hopefully you can order your stein and by February you will be celebrating and savoring a Super Bowl victory in style.
The less said about RedDICK the better. He's either going to report, or he isn't. It wouldn't surprise me if the "anonymous agent" ripping the Jets for some faux turmoil on the team is RedDICK's. JD said the right thing in that it's all about who's here, not who isn't.
The less said of RedDick the better! If he shows up fine, if he doesn’t so what. It would be wonderful if Takk and the UDFAs replace his production! Even if he eventually shows up and performs well, I can’t at this point, I can’t conceive that he would get an extension. He should show up as he is playing for that extension. But as David said…what do we know how a coddled multimillionaire athlete thinks.
Which team would like to commit 25 million a year on 3 years or more for a 30 year old plus malcontent who doesn’t live up to a contract he signs. If he shows up, which in the short term seems unlikely, I’d keep him on the pine to further lessen his value. Then again, that just me as I believe you are only as good as your word and executed contracts are to be followed and not jettisoned at ones convenience!
With the way Ulbrich substitutes and rotates to keep the d-linemen fresh, I think all of the new additions will get enough reps to season themselves and contribute to the entire defense. And if he who shall not be named does report, he will be part of that rotation. That's pretty much the beginning and the end of it. And you are correct, he will NOT get an extension from the Jets, there's too much poison in the water at this point. And I don't see him getting the long-term deal at the price he wants from any team unless they have a disastrous injury situation. He's in the process of torpedoing his own career.
Don't forget Takk. The Jets will have a Takk attack that they will unleash on other teams this season. Watts may never see the field this season. I notice that you didn't mention Clemons either. LOL
Bobber I’m right with you probably below you on player evaluation. Hate to steal your dunce cap. Thanks to David and my fellow posters I know way more than I used r

I got rid of them last year. Too much negative opinion and not enough sports.

Even new news is old news. Will put an edit on that one! lol
Buffalo very thin at wr and safety, evidently other Jet hopefuls replaced him
I concur! Happier with Brandon Smith.
The internet still shows him as being on the Jets' PS. Where did you see that he signed with the Bills???
The Jets actually announced they'd signed Jason Brownlee to the practice squad a few hours ago, so think he's back.
Thanks, David!

We all have learned more than a bit or two from David and the rest of his loyal reprobates, lol.
Reprobates indeed!

To. Sorry hit the wrong button. I think you could say I am a student of the torch and pitchfork brigade learning academy.
I thought i heard they coming in Monday and Tues - off wednesday. LOL on the kids !
