Wide Receiver in today’s NFL has become a premium position. The top 5 WR’s in this year’s draft may develop at best into mediocre WR2’s IMHO. The consensus seems to be that the Jets are locked in at taking a WR at 16, but if there is an impact Defensive player like Downs at 16, you take him every time. Jets have a huge need at WR, are they better served by taking, Germie Bernard at 33 , and Malachi Fields at 44 ? Granted both picks are minor reaches, but the Jets get two solid players that can complement and support Wilson, and are ideal fits for Reich’s Offense.

You may be correct, JO, but I think that perhaps you're overstating the case that the top 5 WRs in this year's draft may develop at best into mediocre WR2's. I think that would definitely be the case if they were drafted to be WR1s, but not as WR2s, and I think it could be the case with 3 of the top 5.

Tyson isn't on the level of Jefferson, Nabers, or (name your favorite top WR), but if it were not for the injury history, I can see why so many like him so much. I think Cooper is going to be one of those WRs that explodes in the NFL. He has great hands, body control, gets open, is tough, can sky for the ball. If the Jets had an X WR already, then Cooper is the guy I'd want, but they don't. Even so, he may wind up being one of, if not THE top WR in this draft class. I've been stumping for an X like Boston, or Brazzell, or Fields, or maybe even Jakobi Lane, but I wouldn't hate it if the Jets took Cooper at #16 then waited and got their X next year (if there will be true X WRs who look like great prospect besides Jeremiah Smith). I've made no bones about the fact that I really want the Jets to wind up with Smith, but I don't think it will happen, but as long as there X WRs who are the equivalent of Fields, Brazzell or Fields next year, I could be happy waiting a year for the X.

Maybe I'm underestimating the WRs position and there are a lot of really good WR2s in the NFL, but I'm not aware of them. Who are some examples of topnotch WR2s in the NFL?

“Al Toon” size receiver always number 1 in my book.

Not sure what is worse hanging a air freshener in the car or waiting it out till the smell evaporates lol -

David Wyatt-Hupton's avatar

I stopped at a services and picked up an air freshener and then regretted it immediately because it gave me a headache after 10 minutes. I'm still putting off cleaning the car but I'll have to het a move on soon 😂

Craig Collins's avatar

OMG I'm SO sorry, David!!! First snow, and then a car-sick child, and now you have to clean it up. I hope that somehow the rest of the mini-vacation was worth it!

Bobber's avatar

How about double air fresheners and a large can of aerosol Lysol air freshener

David Wyatt-Hupton's avatar

I can't stomach air fresheners. I've still got a headache this morning from all the artificial smells

Steve B's avatar

lol wow ! 😂

Steve B's avatar

Thats what i mean better to let it air out ograniclly LOL

All four doors and the boot is open in the drive right now and has been for the last few hours. Thankfully the weather is nice

Malachi Fields is totally being underrated. I would love to come away with Cooper and fields

Craig Collins's avatar

Welcome, Gus. I don't recall seeing you post before, but am glad you did. I would LOVE adding Cooper and Fields!!!! I'd just be shocked if the Jets did that. I think they're higher on AD Mitchell than most of the fanbase, and I think they will look draft a WR next year as well, so I'd really be surprised if they draft 2 this year unless they plan on not keeping one of A. Smith or Irvin Charles for STs or decide to keep 7 WRs. With GW, Mitchell, A. Smith, I. Williams, that's 4 WRs that are probably locks. Then there's Charles, Skinner, and Pritchett. If they keep Charles and one drafted WR, that's 6. They're also talking about signing for trading for a veteran WR. Now if they can't sign or trade for one, they could draft 2, but I would hope that would prevent their drafting at least one WR next year.

I’d imagine Fields will be there at 44, while I’d love to take him there are still areas of his game that need work or he’s going to struggle .

Agree about AD . He actually alluded to getting another chance with the Jets as well. Il sure coach Jefferson will be working hard with him .

I absolutely do thjnk we take 2 WRs this draft , early on and then …..? Who knows .

But taking 2 WRs this year shouldn’t necessarily preclude them from taking more next season .

As for the WR room .

Garrett, AD, draft pick are locks , the. I think it’s TC battle .

IMO Charles is on the outside looking in , with Smitu actually playing really well on STs, (Banjo is a maniac ).

Love Kinner and Pritchett was a player I was super high on prior to the 2025 draft .

Hunch: There will be a day 3 trade for a vet WR

Craig Collins's avatar

I'd be very surprised if they took 2 WRs this year that they'd take another next year, but it's possible.

As for the locks, I think A. Smith is a lock, and Isaiah Williams is as well. Williams did very well as a slot last year and was a great PR, and and as you said Smith was great on STs, and is too young and fast to give up on. He was always going to be a project. Charles helped the Jets STs be good in the past, but I'll be happy if he doesn't make it. I think 3 of the Jets WRs being STers is possibly too much, particularly with 2 of them almost soley STers at this point. I'd love to see Skinner or Pritchett force their way onto the roster. Pritchett would be the backup PR and slot WR. Skinner could be an X, but he needs to put on some weight. 195 and 6'5" is too thin.

A day 3 trade for a WR would be very interesting and exciting!

David, I’m definitely fine with Styles or Reese. And Tate at 16 would be a steal! 👍

Now I’m going to be laughing about this all day hahaha

Yes, the joys of parenthood on a vacation.

We took our son to DisneyWorld a couple times when he was 7-10 years old.

This was about the time they came out with the VHS cameras that resemble something used on a movie set, they were big and bulky.

Back then, if you would walk around the park around 4 pm, you would see quite a few fathers looking as if they walked in the Bataan Death March.

Their faces were bright red from sunburn, they would be perspiring profusely, VHS camera slung over one shoulder, diaper bag or goody bag over the other. Most had anywhere from 2-4 children of which 2-3 would be crying they wanted to go back to the hotel to use the pool.

The one dissenter wanted to go on the Dumpy the Elephant ride for a third time.

The wife would be refusing to leave the park because she needed to find the Snow White and Cinderella salt and pepper shakers for grandma, who collects salt and pepper shakers.

Add the fact, the poor husband had worked all year for a wonderful, relaxing vacation but started his vacation by driving his car from Des Moine, Iowa then had to drive back there at the end of the week.

And then to top it off, when they got back home, when they went to watch the wonderful tape, they then found out he accidentally taped over their wedding tape.

Introducing for the first Mr and Mrs Goofy.

David, my lad, I feel for you but I think you got off easy.

10 years from now It will bring a chuckle to you and your family.

Many so-called experts will admit that Simpson is the most polarizing player coming out this year.

They produce numbers that quarterbacks that start only 15 games do not succeed.

Yet, half of them, either by hook or crook are making him a Jet pick.

It’s either using the 16th or the 33rd or a trade in.

But they also sing in verse two that the Jets organization does not know how to develop quarterbacks.

The draft is three weeks away, it can’t come fast enough.

David Wyatt-Hupton's avatar

Haha you're not wrong on any of that Bobber.

I actually find these shorter holidays with all the driving to be significantly more stressful than the longer ones. That 5 day trip to Scotland was much harder than a two week trip to Singapore and Indonesia, funny how those things work.

Doing it all again next month, but this time it's Italy and plenty of beach time...not that I'm a lover of sitting around at the beach, but the kids will enjoy it.

Bobber's avatar

Well if you ever come to NJ-NY, a little over half of NJ coast line is nothing but beach towns.

Of course, some are specifically tourist traps while some aren’t so bad but all in all, they are still tourist’s traps

Mike Z's avatar

Absolutely Bobber !!!!! There are still some out-of-the-way spots further south before you hit Cape May. My nephew took a week down there with his wife and the three kids last summer and had a ball.

Mike Z's avatar

And before the kids were born, we shared a rental house on Long Beach Island for a week in summer.

Mike Z's avatar

Bobber, I know exactly what you mean. We went down there when my son was around 7 and my daughter was around 5, and I had one of those VHS cameras also. It was an experience for sure. I was lucky, as my ex and the kids tanned very well. I never have trouble with the sun; I don't tan and I don't burn, it's weird. In fact, my daughter got so tanned when she was about 5 or so and dressed her up in a sari and put a dot on her forehead and you wouldn't believe she wasn't Indian. Then she cracked us all up by using that accent when she talked, lol.

Mike Z's avatar

There are just so many WR's being tossed around out there in all of the articles and reports, it's sometimes hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. I can see them taking Tate if he's still available at 16, but I feel that's a pipe dream. There's been a lot of talk about Downs dropping to where he might be available at 16. Do you think that a receiver that would fit the bill would be available at 33 ? I know it's all a big crapshoot until draft day comes, so reports and articles are all over the place.
