Good morning!☕
Back to back editions for the first time in around a month, you know the football season is just around the corner.
We still don’t have a ton of news coming through as the players are only reporting today, but it’ll really start flowing soon enough.
The Jets unveiled a new uniform that’s to be worn against the Bills in October, taking inspiration from the uniform the Championship winning Jets wore back in their 1968 season. The below image highlights the detail on the nameplates and shoulder strips.
PFF outlined one move that every AFC team should make before the season and unsurprisingly they suggest the team should keep their new edge defender happy by signing Haason Reddck to a new contract - “The Jets traded a conditional third-round draft selection for Haason Reddick after letting Bryce Huff walk in free agency, making it an easy case of one pass-rusher in, one pass-rusher out. Reddick has been a consistent sack-getter over the past four years, racking up more than 50 sacks. He tallied 135 pressures in two seasons with the Eagles and earned a 75.2 PFF overall grade in 2023. There’s obvious pedigree there, and the Jets are getting one of the NFL’s premier pass-rushers. One-year rentals are common in the NFL, but Reddick is in the prime of his career, and letting him walk at the end of the season after giving up a third-round pick for him would be bad business.”
PFF also did a training camp preview and highlighted one player from each team to watch: “The Jets’ roster is dotted with talent at almost every position, including receiver. But with veteran addition Mike Williams still recovering from his Week 3 ACL tear in 2023, Corley should be able to get a bona-fide shot to prove his worth during training camp. The third-round pick made a name for himself at Western Kentucky, posting PFF overall grades of 82.6 or better in both 2022 and 2023. He excelled after the catch and brings alignment versatility on every play. Quite frankly, the Jets need a lot more receiver production next to budding star Garrett Wilson. Corley needs to refine his route-running and work as an outside receiver, but stacking reps with Aaron Rodgers in Florham Park should help coaches gauge just how much he can contribute in Week 1”
There are a lot of interesting training camp stories set to unfold over the next 4 weeks, but the one that intrigues me the most is the running back room.
As things stand you have Breece Hall and then a lot of unknowns. For the sake of today we’re going to largely ignore Breece, he’s the main man, the bell-cow, the man who will dominate touches and probably put up an All-Pro season if the Jets stay healthy at QB and on the offensive line.
Take a quick peak at the 90-man roster and you’ll see 6 running backs and Nick Bawden the fullback.
You have a ton of youth with rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis as well as 2nd year men Israel Abanikanda and Xazavian Valladay. The only real experience is Tarik Cohen, who you feel has been brought in more for his return ability.
