Campbell is 6’8, the man has some length as well as veteran leadership, but Atlanta needs Defensive Line help badly, I can’t see the Falcons letting him go. Jets maybe looking for an Edge more like Bryce ? I’m in at seven million.

Do you think TE is a weakness ? Like the Potential of Ruckert, Kenny Yeboah, and even Kuntz, could be addressed in the sixth or seventh but not before. Bowers at 10 ? Not a true TE, but not a fan.

I don't think TE is a glaring need. Conklin and Ruckert have the potential to be good players in this system but Rodgers isn't renowned for targeting the middle of the field, so I think we can easily get by with those two and Yeboah and we'll see there Kuntz is this pre-season. Maybe draft one in the 4th, but not sure I'd target that position before then.

I agree. To waste #10 on anything but the best possible OT available would be malpractice, and if no one is deemed worth it, trade down for extra picks. The Jets need to draft at least three or more offensive linemen in this draft. That is a certainty. And we still don't know if St. Rogers will have the mobility he had in the 2022 season, the world wonders.

Though we found two starting tackles and we did a good job of filling the ‘holes’, to go in the season without fortifying the OL with quality backups would be ill advised. Draft an OT at 10 or trade down the a few spots and draft an OT. A quality IOL should also be on the menu. We need to protect AR as we saw what happened last year. Yes…we have a competent backup QB, but, he too has a penchant for getting injured!

It's a tough thing to balance an "all-in" season with future needs but you cannot just throw away the future for the "possibility" of making the playoffs this season, that is just being a fanatic. The biggest lie in Jet history was that the team was only "a QB away" from playoffs and/or Super Bowl last season when they got St. Rogers and the rest of the "Rogers Retreads". The whole debacle will have long-term repercussions to the team, which is already cursed with the worst ownership in the NFL.

The other elephant in the room is the jewels from the 2022 draft, who all come up for free agency at the same time. And with the record of uselessness in 2022 and 2023 it doesn't bode well for them staying on. And all the $$$$$ pushed into future years makes it even harder to contemplate re-signing them. And the fact that I feel in my bones that there will be a major house cleaning after this season will make it even harder going forward. I don't think the Jets have a choice, the entire staff has to go regardless of what happens this season.

That is A LOT of linemen. They'd wind up cutting dudes. As it stands, they've got the starting 5 (Tyron Smith, John Simpson, Joe Tippman, AVT, Morgan Moses) and 4 backups expected on the team (Max Mitchell, Carter Warren, Wes Schweitzer, Jake Hanson). That is in addition to a number of lesser known dudes who fill out the practice squad and camp. Drafting one guy probably pushes out one of Max Mitchell/Carter Warren. Drafting one more pushes out one of the Schweitzer/Hansen tandem. There's absolutely zero way they roll with three backup linemen who are rookies. Now, THAT would be malpractice.

I agree that there is only so many rooms at the Inn. However given injury history and 1 year tackle commitments for Smith and Moses drafting an OT in the first round this year seems reasonable. I would expect that player would see time this year and hopefully start next year.

Drifting off point, the Reddick trade highlights a failure as regards drafting Macdonald at edge. Sitting on the pine or having limited playing time is more acceptable with an UDFA or a mid to late round selection.

That's true to a point.

Rodgers preference and tendencies, is an excellent point here.

While I think Campbell would be a perfect signing for the Jets.

Atlanta made two significant changes since last season.

They signed Cousins to replace a totally under performing, inexperienced Desmond Ridder at quarterback. Actually found a trading partner to take him plus got Rondale Moore out of the deal.

Too bad JD couldn’t pull off that one.

They also fired their totally inept HC. If you follow fantasy football you will understand why I say that.

Maybe It’s just me, but I just think that the Jets sometimes lose out on certain free agents because of this organizations constant disfunction.

Smarter veteran players who feel they are financially secure avoid the Johnson Circus.

There is an old saying “ if there is smoke, there is fire. This latest RUMOR about a Johnson Saleh argument might have some truth to it. Woody Johnson rarely talks to the press but when he does, people either look skyward or hold their foreheads. He has been known to say the dumbest things at the exact worse time.

I think that Campbell coming to the Jets, is totally dependent on whether the new coaching staff wants him or not.

Happy Easter to all.

Happy Easter. Two whacked out theories on the Saleh / Johnson rift. First, Saleh wants Zack out of here yesterday, Woody the bean counter talkin about keeping Zack as a third string QB until the trade deadline, Saleh complaining of team culture doom. Second, Douglas wouldn’t meet Clowney’s demands, but sent it to Woody for the final say, Saleh crazy for a second string Edge. My problem with this second scenario is that this obsession with Edge will spill over into the draft, that threatens 72, which needs to an Offensive pick.

Good morning to most of you and Happy Easter🐣 🐇to all who observe! Not a fan of bringing in C.Campbell as 38 is 38! I’m wondering if a guy like Kyle VanNoy or Bud Dupree might be better options. Both had 9 sacks and offer a similar play style to Bryce Huff. Another guy I’m curious about is Bradly Anae who’s been on our preseason roster the last few years but has had some injuries that have kept him sidelined. When he played he had good success creating pressures. It’s gonna be an interesting 3 plus weeks so buckle up kids, you just never know what’s gonna happen with JD….

Outstanding catch with Bradley Anae, who remembers him ? just outstanding. Agree , Van Noy & Bud Dupree could be better fits. Recent signing is Scrubeenie Jayln Holmes, is a possibility, a bit of a tweener DT/ DE, 6’5 283

Happy Easter. Thanks to all of you that post, makes for a great start to my day.

Happy Easter to all and your families. I think the chance of signing Campbell is pretty slim given what has transpired in the cleaning house in Atlanta and the addition of new assets. The Jets are a clown show and why would he want to even entertain the thought of coming here is beyond me. But the fact remains that he is 38 and his production could fall off the cliff at any moment makes it a hard no for me. And I don't think money and multi-year contract were the only reasons Clowney didn't come here.

Its really a special season transpiring for the Rangers - LGR !. The Mets start off today with some low expectations but LGM ! For the Jets you descrived it accurately - absolute disaster if they do not get to the playoffs this year and or win the AFC East. I'll be in Paris next week so will find out what its like to be 5 hours ahead of NY Sports LOL ! Happy Easter to everyone !

Jets trade with the Eagles for Edge Hasson Reddick for a conditional 2026 Third Round pick. Jets pick up a salary of 14.5, CAP gyrations ahead.

Expand full comment

Pick turns into a second rounder if Reddick plays 67 percent of snaps AND has 10 sacks. For context, Quinnen Williams and Jermaine Johnson were the only Jets defensive linemen to play over 65 percent of snaps (Quinnen at 68 and Jermaine at 66). It feels unlikely that he hits the snap percentage mark, let alone the sack mark (he's more likely to get that sack mark, honestly). Additionally, they receive a compensatory pick if he isn't resigned at the end of the year.

We are in the Jets two year window, great move, we are all in. Huff / Reddick comparisons forever. But we lost Huff, Douglas came up with a creative solution to replace him. David, may have a Saturday post for us tomorrow, can’t wait.

If it will prevent the Jets from drafting an Edge, I'm all for signing Calais Campbell.

With regards to the TE position, I agree with you, David, that it's not a need and that Rodgers doesn't like to target the middle of the field. That's not likely to change, either, not at 41. He doesn't want to turn the ball over, and there's often too many players in the middle of the field, and TOs come more easily. I don't think Kuntz will develop, but it would be just the Jets luck that they draft Bowers, and so release Kuntz, then he goes to another team and becomes a star or he develops and the Jets realize that they didn't need to have drafted Bowers and should have used the pick on an OT or WR.

Happy Easter to all who celebrate! I don't know if Passover and Easter coincide this year, but if they do and anyone celebrates Passover, L'Shenah Tovah! If you celebrate Ramadan, I don't know what the appropriate wish or saying is, but may you be blessed.
