Good Morning ☕

We experienced a quieter day yesterday as free agency enters phase two.

This phase is for all those role players and all those starters who didn’t get the deal they thought they would.

The Jets already secured one of those guys in Dylan Parham, a player who signed a team friendly deal with the Jets, betting on himself to cash in before he turns 30. It’s another smart move for Darren Mougey.

It does seem as though Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey are good salesmen, selling people on the re-build in NY. I’m sure the fact we have a boatload of picks which can improve a team very quickly doesn’t hurt in those conversations.

I’m significantly less confident in Aaron Glenn today than I was 12 months ago, but I’m also not the kind of person to write someone off after just 17 games. Some of our new players spoke to the media yesterday and one consistent theme was the pull of playing for Glenn.

Demario Davis spoke about his role being to amplify the coaches message and “I believe in what’s being built here under the leadership of Aaron Glenn.” David Onyemata credited his relationship with Glenn being a big reason for him when choosing the Jets and Minkah Fitzpatrick spoke of his excitement: “I’m really excited to play for coach. He’s a guy who played high level football in his life and his career. he sees the game in a similar manor to guys who play my position. he has that DB bias. I’m excited to play for him.”

Geno Smith previously credited a phone conversation with Glenn as a big reason why he chose the Jets over other options.

Talking of Geno he met with the media yesterday and he said all the right things. How he’s a completely different QB, how experience will be his best professor and how his original intension was to be a lifelong Jet and retire here. I’ve watched a lot of Smith over the last 48 hours and there is a reason why so many including Pete Carroll have come to respect him. But he also knows that he has to perform on the field "The thing about fans is you gotta go out there and win and you gotta go out there and play well. We want to give our fans something to be proud of." A few words here or there won’t mean anything if the wins don’t come, but we’re getting a motivated Geno with a point to prove.

He did speak about Garrett Wilson calling him a “A true No. 1, Top 10 receiver in this league. Everybody knows what he can do. It’s my job to get him the ball and get him the ball early, get him the touches he needs.” and while I’m not fully bought in on the Geno Smith renaissance, I do think we’re about to see Garrett have a career year considering the style of play Geno operates and the fact we finally have a play-caller to believe in with Frank Reich. Let’s see where that takes us in 2026.

Breece Hall - Top Priority

Earlier this week I said I had a feeling that Notre Dame star running back Jeremiyah Love may be in the running for the Jets first round pick. No inside sources, no outside knowledge, just a gut feeling that I had.

Breece was tagged but continued to make snide comments about the organisation on social media, seemingly surprised that they were bringing in players to help the team win with money they hadn’t forked over to him.

It wasn’t a good luck for Breece who has often cut a sulky teenager vibe on the sidelines and in post-game locker rooms.

But this isn’t a case of the Jets not attempting to re-sign Breece, far from it. Mougey spent significant time over the last couple of months with Hall’s agent Nicole Lynn from Klutch Sports. According to Connor Hughes, the deal almost got done:
