Good morning
The comment section in yesterday’s TJW inspired today’s post. Following Ashtyn’s performance against the Bucs and Coach Saleh’s comments afterwards, it got me thinking about his place on the 53-man roster.
It seems to be that Davis is largely guaranteed that 4th and final safety spot and the most common reason given relates to his special team’s ability.
So based on what we can track, how good is Davis in special teams and does his production match his salary?
The trio of Will McDonald, Jermaine Johnson and Bryce Huff have combined for 18 pressures and 5 sacks in just 108 combined pass-rushing snaps. That’s ridiculous production from the young pass-rushers.
Zach Wilson is completing 68.4% of his passes this pre-season, but he’s only attempted one pass of 20+ yards, and only 3 passes of between 10-19 yards, completing just one of them. This means 34 of his passes have been under 10 yards.
One week today it’s NFL cut-down day, teams will need to trim their rosters down to the final-53 on August 29th. There are going to be over 1,200 players hitting the waiver wire on that date, an exciting time for the scouting staff.
Aaron Rodgers playing against the Giants makes me queasy. You’re putting him in front of a makeshift line against 2nd team players trying to make the roster. If AVT, Laken and Duane Brown won’t return this week, I’d do my best to convince him that he doesn’t want to be in that game.
The Jets worked out CB Anthony Brown according to Tom Pelissero. Brown is a former Cowboy who was taken in the 6th round of the 2016 draft. He got a second contract with the Cowboys and had 7 pass defenses and 42 tackles last season. He did however allow 5 touchdowns into his coverage, and while he only allowed 54.3% of passes to be completed, those passes went for 561 yards with 171 yards after the catch.
