Good morning ☀️
"At this point as I sit here, I think since Friday I've made it clear that my intention was to play and my intention was to play for the New York Jets"
With those words, it all became real. At some point over the coming weeks, Aaron Rodgers will be a Jet. The future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers wants to end his career here in NY.
But It wasn’t always as clear for Aaron and he admitted as much, saying that he was leaning 90% towards retiring before his darkness retreat.
Following the meeting with the Jets, Rodgers was open and honest with the Jets about wanting to see if he still had the drive after getting to his workout regime, and once he realized he had that drive and commitment, he made it clear that the Jets were his preferred destination.
Unfortunately, the Packers and Jets are still in negotiations about the compensation package, and that’s what’s holding up the deal. So while some sources online stated the trade details had been worked out, it’s become obvious that they haven’t:
"And I haven't been holding anything up at this point, it's been compensation that the Packers are trying to get for me, and kind of digging their heels in, so it is interesting at this point to step back and take a look at the whole picture. From my side all the love, appreciation and gratitude for everything Green Bay has done for me… And also the reality of the situation, like it is what it is. The Packers would like to move on. They've let me know that in so many words, they've let other people know that in direct words. And because I still have that fire and I want to play, I'd like to play in New York, it's just a matter of getting that done at this point."
One interesting comment he made was in relation to the report that surfaced yesterday about the list of players that Rodgers handed to the Jets. The report seemed to indicate although not explicitly say, that Rodgers wanted these guys and wanted a commitment from the Jets that they would pursue these guys, before he agreed to join.
Now obviously the Jets signed his former offensive coordinator in Nathaniel Hackett and they signed former teammate Allen Lazard as well, but Rodgers made it clear that there were no stipulations behind that list. He merely spoke about former teammates after the Jets directly asked him.
