The Jets and Rodgers are having a helluva honeymoon, AR seems to have a positive effect on the entire organization. It’s important to note that Hacketts Offense is a WCO, similar to LaFleurs but different. Lots of learning for everyone. Excited to see who flourishes in this Offense. Zack & Aaron are smiling and seem to enjoy coming to work, what a great development. Zack is getting a lot of support from Rodgers, Hackett, Hacketts Offense , and Passing Coordinator Todd Downing.. Downing a veteran coach, the replacement for the departed Gregg Knapp, has a pretty good resume in developing QB’s. Worked with a young Matthew Stafford, Carr and Ryan Tannehill, Wilson is his next project, this could work.

Been a Jet fan since 1963, been a draftnik starting around the same time.

Do fans on draft night like every pick, not at all but once the dust clears, the fans embrace the pick and hopes for his success.

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending how you look at things, the internet, social media, ESPN, Mel Kiper et all have expanded the draft to a cottage industry that teams bid to hold the draft. Player evaluations are all over the place. Very easy to find completely different opinions on players.

The days of the Felt Forum loaded with Jet and Giant fans screaming when their team makes a pick, the burying of heads into their hands when a disapproved pick was made is full Jet classic. Let’s not forget the most famous quote from a Jet fan back then, “ it appears they know something that no one else knows. This was when the Jets took O’Brien over Marino.

My point though is that a majority of Jet fans usually accept the pick and hope for the best. They will cheer when the pick shows improvement and starts to win games. Ken O’Brien showed he had the stuff to beat and outplay Marino.

Zach Wilson is not the first pick to underperform and draw the fans ire. He was a questionable pick for some of the masses. Yes, his circumstances were tough, rookie head coach, rookie OC.

But the one thing that Zach Wilson didn’t do was accept responsibility. Never has a player split a fan base as bad as he did when he said “NO”

I hope he when training camp begins he is attached to Rodgers hip, I hope once the games begin, he is the first player to approach Rodgers as he approaches the sideline. Last year, when he got benched, the camera would find him sitting on the sideline by himself wearing a hood wallowing in the fact HE was benched.

I really hope that Rodgers explains to him his responsibility as a starting quarterback. I’m sure during his career Rodgers has had games when he threw for 4 touchdowns and 350 yards but the Pack lost, Rodgers said I/ WE didn’t do enough to win.

Not only must Zach resurrect his game, he needs to learn when to say I, me and NO.

I hope he leads the Jets to a Super Bowl. School starts in August.

Zack with the help from Rodgers has the opportunity to redefine himself and his approach, interesting to see how this plays out. In the days of the Felt Forum, believe that Jet Fans out numbered Giant Fans two to one, with a radical & Vocal Eagle contingent. Pretty crowded for the First round, but by the sixth round there were only thirty fans with their charts scattered throughout the theater. Fond memories

Yes - he was sitting on the bench without an iPad even, totally unengaged. He truly needed the kick in the pants that he got (tho Saleh should have stopped the Mike White T-Shirt brigade and other stuff his teammates did to display their happiness that Zach was benched - that was poor head coaching on his part). Too young, and still a big question mark.

Based on what I read today in David's newsletter, I think that Zach is learning, and now seems to have the right attitude.

I'm waiting for training camp and preseason is over before making any kind of determination about Zach. I want to see him in game conditions, which he will get a lot of in the preseason. So we will see what we will see. Another thing is that comment about Garrett Wilson making a big leap in year two. That and AR's agreement on that just shows that Hopkins is not needed here. He wouldn't get the number of snaps and targets the HE deems is his due, and that's a cancerous situation for the WR room.

I agree with you, David, that change is good for people, yet it's sad that so many people expend so much time and energy fighting change. There's a rule in nature that states if an organism (this also holds true for an organization or person) isn't growing, changing, and evolving, then it is dying. There is no such thing as maintaining the status quo, yet seemingly, that's what most people want to do. I don't get it.

I LOVE the news about Becton!!!! Thanks for sharing that. I'm really hoping that he has an All Pro season, stays healthy from here on, and winds up with a HOF career. How wild would it be if both Zach and he wind up being two of the greatest Jets ever after their start?

I believe that Garrett Wilson will have a huge year and be an All Pro.

I hate that Mims wasn't here this past week. This is prime time for him, and he can't afford to miss. I'm happy about Brownlee, but Mims better be careful, or he will wind up on the outside looking in.

Thanks for all the info on Zach Wilson. I love it! I still believe in his talent and that he will succeed. I love his attitude, and I believe that he now has the right people, situation around him in which he can not only succeed, but thrive. It's in all of our best interests that he does thrive.

Wilson & Becton can resurrect their careers, but they will never be near "the greatest Jets ever".

I watched the Zaxh Wilson intervew. I for one now think he may have a chance. Was much more mature and defimitly humbled. I give gim better odds on making it then i do Becton.

Nice article, BUT no way Rodgers mentoring Wilson is "a close second" to winning the Championship. Rodgers is here to pursue the Lombardi Trophy, showing Wilson the ropes via observations & questions is another thing....but def not close second.

Well, I think at this point we have all read or heard all the camp rhetoric about everyone all in on Zach as the team’s eventual starter. I’m still not buying it. The fact that he needs so much work on simple things like fundamentals is frankly scary to me. Thats the kind of thing I’m reading about on incoming college freshman like Arch Manning. The Jets are in a tough spot with him. He’s here. He’s under contract for the next two season. It would be embarrassing to just release or trade him. But does anyone here or in any Jet fan group really want to see him taking meaningful snaps this season?

First off, your reply is not accepted. You replied at 8:29. You did not reply at your normal time of 11:30. Too maintain order, we must be consistent.

I agree 100% on what you posted. A lot of his issues, were between his ears the first two years.

This kid has a lot of fences to mend.

Becoming a better than average quarterback and successfully performing in big games and winning them will help.

But his lack of respect for his teammates especially the defense will be the hardest mountain for him to climb. He has to learn to keep his inflated, pampered ego home when he is in uniform.

One thing nobody ever gave Joe Namath credit for.

His first training camp lunch, the players not only sat by position group but also by color. Joe sat down with the first black table he saw. Today, no big deal back then spoke volumes on respect and leadership.

You initial paragraph is hilarious, Bobber!

I agree with the rest.

Thanks for the info on Joe Namath sitting at a black table. I never knew that. That makes me even prouder of him!

I'm perhaps Zach's biggest fan, but I don't want him playing this year, not because I fear he will be awful, but I think he needs this year to just focus on fixing his issues, learning the offense, and learning from Rodgers, Hackett and Downing. I think it's in HIS best interests not to have to play this year. He is having to start from scratch with a new offense, and with coaches who can actually teach and help him. Just because he is starting from scratch doesn't mean that they should even think of trading or releasing him. I guarantee you that if they did look to trade him, they'd have teams competing to get him.

Zach's fundamentals would have been fine for a lot of offenses. It's only the WCO that has very stringent, particular fundamentals that are required. That's why I think it was a bad decision to handle Zach as they did, but that's what happens when you have a rookie HC, rookie OC, rookie QB Coach, and a fairly new GM who has little or no experience in developing a QB.

Craig, well I love your commitment and belief in Zach but for me I just disagree. When the Jets fell in love with him it was because they envisioned for him being an ideal fit for their “ west coast offense. They wanted an athletic guy that could make quick smart decisions and accurate throws and have the ability to buy time and make plays when things broke down. Two years later we know he can’t make quick decisions. We know his accuracy is anything but good. And while he makes cool looking evasive moves when pressured they more often than not end up Hail Mary like throws that end up incomplete or in a bonehead turnover. So now we’re at a point where he’s destined to sit in the bench to learn? I’m still trying to figure out what he’s supposed to learn watching his hero? You learn by doing. You can’t learn to drive a car or fly a plane watching videos or sitting in a flight simulator. They don’t usually crash. So there is no stress. You need to be under the gun to know if you can or can’t do it!

We'll definitely have to disagree, because I don't agree with one single statement that you made about what we "know" about him. Those are only your rushing to judgment because he didn't live up to some preconceived notion on your part. That has nothing to do with reality.

I'm sorry, but your comments really sadden me, as they show that you are ignorant of how people can react to situations and how they can learn and improve. It's a good thing the SF 49ers didn't feel the way you do about Zach with Steve Young or the LA Rams about Kurt Warner, or the KC Chiefs aabout Alex Smith, or even the Seattle Seahawks about Geno Smith. People and athletes are not cookie cutters. Not everyone is the same, develops at the same rate, learn the same ways or at the same pace. Circumstances can make all the difference for people and for athletes. The Jets never would have drafted him if he couldn't do any of those things that you claim that we "know" he can't do. The fact is that you're wrong. He has done all of those things at one time or another both at BYU and with the Jets, he just hasn't done them consistently, every play, every game.

Craig, Great. Then we agree to disagree.

Way to take the high road Ron.

Craig, you're a bit of a dreamer, but if anyone gets in the way of that dream, you seem to kinda get rude (Ron's "ignorant"?). Bad show. Zach showed very little in terms of ability to carry a team (except in the Pitt game). He runs out of the pocket the second there's any pressure; when he throws it away it looked like he felt he did good. There's lots of video out there showing open Jet's receivers and no ball thrown as Zach was off running in circles. I don't fully blame him the coaching staff knew it but stayed with him (unfair to him); the team knew it and had enough. Had Saleh inserted Mike White in 2nd half of Pats game, we make the playoffs. BYU ain't the NFL, there are hundreds of solid college QBs that could cut it in the talented NFL. I agree with you he can't play this year - he should be red shirted and avoid the likely relapse of bad play. They must sign another vet QB. I do hope he turn it around, but you can't ordain a guy on "promise".

Charlie, unfortunately Craig and I have vastly different takes on Zach. I never liked the idea of drafting him because he really hadn’t played against the type of competition that would prepare him for NFL competition. His final season at BYU was against a cupcake schedule born out of the Covid situation. Not his fault and he killed it. But the previous season against a more representative schedule we saw pretty much what we have soon with him here. As for any name calling or insults on a group chat, not to worry, I run a FB Jets group and I know how to deal with stuff like that. Thank you for your kind words. Like you I am hopeful JD comes to his senses and brings in a more viable emergency option. Zach has continued throwing the ball all over the pace in practice so its obvious he hasn’t figured it out to a point where any sane Jet fan would be comfortable playing mean in Gaul snaps…

hey bobber! how many times did the JETS DEFENSE screw up at just the wrong time to loose the game last year? did the DEFENSE apologize to the OFFENSE or specifically the QB? i don't recall that happening, do you? You either win/lose as a team or you have no chance! Saleh should be ashamed of himself for not defending his QB from such a divisive and harmful environment!

C'mon, Ron. IMO you're being a bit over the top and harsh in your expectations, and are being unrealistic. Hackett himself said that is offense is different from MLF's and that Zach is back to starting from scratch. He's still having to think too much. Players are not going to be consistent or great when they're having to think too much. Also, it is my understanding that due to the NFL Players' Assoc. that it is illegal for coaches to contact players during the offseason. He could work out in the facility and had the playbook, but couldn't contact the OC, Passing Coordinator or anything to begin working with them. Zach is known for his film study, so I'm certain that he watched the footage of his play the last two seasons, and probably watched footage of Rodgers and the GB offense from 2020 and 2021, and probably some work on recognizing defenses as well.
