for the past 5-6 years, Jet fans have bemoaned that their beloved Jets never have a record comparable to the KC Chiefs.
Well fans, you have scaled your Mount Everest. They have done it. Both the Jets and the Chiefs today are 0-2.
Now the ugly bad news,
Being a Jet fan since 1963, I have had my spirit broken so many times in the past, I can no longer expect a win, no matter the opponent.
This week leading up to the Bill game, some delusional fans on social media predicted a Jet win. Some semi -delusional fans said they had a very good chance.
In all honesty, the Jets are not in the Bills class, in fact they aren’t even in the same school building.
The Bills are in the varsity building, the Jets are in the JV building, presently that also includes the coaching staff led by HC Spike Game
This past offseason the know nothing Jet fans which includes the greatest assortment of Jet related commenters anywhere , the Torch and Pitchfork Brigade accumulated a list of Jets that they considered undesirable for the 2025 roster. The list included Gipson, Clemons and Lazard.
When Glenn was hired, he constantly spoke about accountability, he constantly preached to the choir about penalties. He didn’t heed are advice.
His sermons on the mount about accountability and penalties now seem to be empty words equal to All Gas, No Brakes.
The Jets were horrendous on missed tackles last year. Glenn had tackling drills during training camp. They missed Bills to the tune of 9 times yesterday.
The Steeler game outcome was greatly assisted by Gipson.
Today, Bills first drive stopped by the defense, wait there is yellow laundry on the field and it’s definitely not a terrible towel left over from last week.
Roughing the passer on # 72.
He basically thru gasoline on a lit match. Clemons 5th lifetime roughing the quarterback penalty.
Also Coach Spike Game’s nonsense of accountability was shown to be a farce.
What was Quincy Williams punishment for that personal foul from last week.
In retrospect, Coach Spike’s cutting of Gipson was comparable to him firing a hot dog vendor working section 308 in the stadium. It appears to have had minimal effect both in the club house and on the field.
I can’t wait to see what he does with Clemons. Will a slap on the wrist suffice or will he be banned from the dessert cart in the cafeteria for a week.
Well, based on yesterday’s debacle, it appears that Saleh and his staff were coaching the Jets again.
It was like Deja Vue.
Every thing we saw wrong last year, was on display yesterday
I have said many times a leopard never changes his stripes. The Fields we saw yesterday was the same Fields that two other teams gave up on. Last week was an aberration, a mirage, a fantasy dream.
Time to start reading 2026 quarterback evaluations.
The NFL has a rule that when a quarterback goes into a slide, he is untouchable. You hit, you pay, 15 yards.
Evidently the Jets are an exception to the rule. What were the officials looking at.
Sad news for you fans who wanted the Jets signing Javeon Clowney, slick Jerrah, beat you to the punch after the Cowboys win over the Giants.
For some reason with the Jets, there just isn't a ton of accountability and we tend to be one of the few teams in professional sports that can cycle through a number of regimes, coaches and still look nearly identical. It's such a shame that within 2 weeks of the season we are already questioning everything.
I look a look at Saleh's stats in San Fran, 14 penalties in two games, very undisciplined unit...but the difference is they're 2-0.
One thing i forgot to add - Glenn wants to be agressive he told us - but he punted on two 4th down when they needed to try and get a first. Essentially giving up on the game
Thankfully, I wasn't able to see the game yesterday. Did the Bills hit Fields as he was sliding? If so, Glenn and Mougey need to raise hell with the NFL about officiating. Maybe Woody needs to threaten to sue the NFL if the refs don't start calling the games right.
The defender, essentially, started his "tackle" right as Fields starts to give himself up for the slide. Romo was on the call and broke it down a bit. It's probably one of those situations where looking at it in slow motion makes it seem less egregious and like a closer call.
Well I hate to throw gas on a fire but when the Jets hired Steve Wilkes I was shocked. He’s bounced around the league never last more than 2 seasons in any one spot. The 49ers dumped him after only one season. Watching Atlanta Minnesota last night I saw rookies contributing in all phases of the game. Watching Brandon Steven’s jogging after Cook from the 25 yard line to the end zone was difficult to stomach. I am hoping at some point we see Skinner replace Lazard, Brandon Smith replace Reynolds and Pritchett replace the new guy Isiah Williams. At least they would give us something to root for as the Gus wasting roster spots ahead of them give us nothing but mediocrity.( at best😡)
Yeah Brandon Stephens has been an absolute disaster so far. Not only was he jogging there, but he also over pursued and got dragged too far inside losing his angle to the ball. He may not have caught Cook on that one, but for optics sake you go all out until Cook crosses that line. Giving up that early was just a bad look all around.
First the good news - in the "Green Room" - I met Pat Ryan, Carl Howard, Fred Baxter, Quincey Enunwa, Tony Richardson & Joe Klecko all in playing shape and real nice guys. Ryan's birthday in next Tuesday he told us. Spoke with Klecko abouts sacks agaunst Phil Simms - he sad "we put a hurting on him" lol.
The bad news as David said the gae was over after the Clement penalty. The Bills were torying with the Jets from the get go. Sause (for you Ron) twp hoding calls and let th ebackup QB beat him on a couple of passes. Real bad game as all of them had. Bart Scott said after the game - "it was the worse game he ever saw" and "the Jets got the Dog Walked".
Nothing as changed here - nothing - its bad as it has been. With the top 5 pick they are getting they need to take a QB no matter what. We all can look forward to two 0-3 teams Monday night in a couple of weeks.
Awesome that you had a positive experience yesterday, one of the few in attendance who did I'm sure lol.
Unfortunately I think you're right. Looking back at free agency, I'm still frustrated that we didn't sign my guy Cam Bynum, especially after seeing the safety play so far. 2 games, 2 interceptions for Bynum so far with his new team in Indy, oh and they're also 2-0.
And I was so excited early on when Tony Adams made a stop behind the line of scrimmage early in this one. The longer the game went on, the more the defense came apart. With each mistake, they dug a deeper and deeper hole.
This game was back to being a painful watch. Even though they lost last week and the defensive secondary was awful outside of Sauce, it was enjoyable to watch. I don't know the stats, however from what I saw today Sauce was bad as well. Was Clemons benched the rest of the game after the penalty?
I really had high hopes for this coaching staff. Maybe I was being delusional.
Where was Will McDonald? He isn't even on the stat sheet. I am wondering if Fields stayed in for awhile after the concussion. if yes, I can understand him being off. However, before that his accuracy was way off. His only good play was that long run. And I too don't understand how a flag wasn't dropped after he slid and was hit.
Let's see how they come out against the Bucs next week. I hate to call it a must game though it seems to me that it is.
I think its an absolute must-win game next season. Starting the year 0-3 is basically ending the season. After that Bucs game we have the Dolphins, and that's a very winnable game...but if we lose to Tampa we'll lose that game in Miami as well, I think we win that game we beat Miami and go into that Dallas game at 2-2. But a lot needs to improve obviously.
The team accepted defeat after the first 2 possessions. Williams' fumble sealed the deal - flushing any confidence. Within minutes the announcers had to tear up the story lines they had prepared for the Green and White. Simply, a joke.
Watching Bynum has been a dagger to the stomach. Will we ever have a back end safety ball hawk like that? Will we ever learn how to peanut punch a ball? Will we ever successfully recover a fumble? There’s certain things other teams make look routine that I’ve never seen the Jets execute. How long have we watched Josh Allen dance around the pocket for 30 seconds with absolutely no contain and then prance free for 15 yards. I genuinely think we’re allergic to hitting him.
I am hopeful though and am not losing faith in Glenn. Give him time. Let’s see what they’re made of next week. Not only does he need to build his roster and culture but he has a legit curse to break that is unique to 1 team in the NFL. Go Jets.
Spot on Greg. I think when I wrote the Bynum piece here, most readers were pro going after him. Safety is a positional group we've ignored for a long time. Tony Adams is making it clear and obvious that he's not a starter in this league and Cisco has been a huge disappointment. I also think the system we're playing with that single high really limits what we can do.
I'm still with Glenn, but I think we're going to have a season where we enjoy the odd high, but experience a lot of low lows.
Cisco and Adams each made a couple of plays that I remember getting excited about. Unfortunately, it seemed like the defense was trying to pull of the bend-don't-break strategy. Remember that they held the Bills to a couple of drives ending in field goals (thus keeping it a two-score game). The James Cook 40 yard touchdown, though, broke their back. They were simply on the field for FAR too many snaps in the first half. That James Cook touchdown happened against a gassed defense. The offense needs to help their teammates out.
When I’m watching a game, I will go to Twitter for reactions from the beat writers and reputable NFL types Damien Woody, Bobby Sabo etc. they all were criticizing the Jets for no adjustments on both sides of the ball yesterday.
I wish I could remember who said that on one particular play, Lazard made absolutely no effort to block the defender by him, who by the way made the tackle near the line of scrimmage. Matador Allen, wasn’t he kept because of his tenacious blocking.
We hear wonderful things about Steve Wilkes but he is 9-19 as a head coach. Yes, he was put in a bad situation in Arizona but a .321 winning percentage isn’t really very comforting when your unit is giving up 30 points a game.
Since I have admittedly no player evaluation skills.
Is it just possible that Jet players we think are really good aren’t
Speaking of my evaluation skills, I always thought that Daniel Jones when he was on the Giants was a better quarterback than what the Jets had at that time.
The cap evaluators here can breakdown Fields but Jones signed a one year $14 million make it contract with the Colts.
Maybe good coaching is all he needed.
As of today, he is 2-0 . Has completed 45 of 63 passes 71.4 %, for 588 yards, 2 tds and has rushed for 3 more
Interestingly Bobber I was having that conversation with a colleague last night. Are the Jets good players just average players on other teams and are the Jets average players just bad players on other team.
I remember that play and, honestly, I had to take a moment to consider what happened. I don't think Lazard showed much effort on the play, but he ultimately had no chance to block his man. The corner was coming on a run blitz. The Bills did this a couple of times and they were perfectly timed (early downs, running play, tight formation). It was the kind of defensive play call that the opposing staff probably came up with while scouting the Jets in the previous week. I don't like the way the play looked (it winds up looking like the receiver is making no effort to block a guy coming free), but I kind of get what happened. The receiver was schemed by the defense into a no win situation that only preemptive scheming and adjustments can solve. Maybe Fields, the receiver, somebody on the edge, or a coach somewhere on the sideline sees the blitzing corner, but it is just a really well timed blitz.
I wasn't surprised one bit by what happened yesterday. The simple fact of the matter is that the Bills are 20 times the team the Jets are in all facets of the game. AG wasn't the image of Coach Passed Gas, but he had no real answers. The Bills had this won before they even left Buffalo. From a mental standpoint, the Bills looked at not having Ed Oliver and Taron James and made sure that the "next man up" was fully prepared and invigorated. It also helps to have a roster that has competent backups.
Like I said before, it looked to me that AG and the Moug were taking a quasi-rebuild/remain competitive stance for this season. That option is off the table, and the Jets should be in full-rebuild mode. I don't mean have a fire sale to stockpile draft picks but keep that young core together as a base of some sort. They wasted a lot of time by keeping players like Gipson, Lazard and Clemons on the roster. The only way you are going to develop talent is by playing them to see if they are a viable option. Clemons needs to be gone, period. He's a net negative and has a 0 football IQ. Adams isn't far behind either, he's just not a good player. Cisco hasn't been as advertised. Stephens is a disaster. Old McDonald is not a 3-down DE, he's a liability against the run, 15 pounds doesn't mean a thing.
The defensive scheme was laughable and there were many miscues, even worse than last week. All the single-high safety looks just did not work. Crossers all over the place and the TE's were wide-open all game. Sauce should have been following Coleman all game, but with Stephens' inability to cover, there wasn't much he could do.
After seeing the Steelers screw the pooch against Seattle, last week's game is no real barometer. I'm not going to rail about Fields because the Jets knew they were getting the ultimate Jekyll & Hyde QB. They made their bed and now they can hide under it, lol. I think they will be lucky to win 5 games this season unless there's some miraculous turnaround. They just don't have the personnel necessary yet. Even though it's only two games in, it's time for AG and The Moug to crap or get off the pot. It's rebuilding time and it's obvious.
I'm not trying to make excuses for Glenn, but imo it's entirely possible that the reason that he didn't bench Clemons is who is he going to play if he does? As you said McDonald just isn't big enough most weeks to set the edge and hold up vs the run. Baron is a rookie who was a 5th round pick. Was McGregor even active? Even if he was, he just isn't that fast or that good. Was LT3 active?
As Ron said, Wilks may not be good enough, there may not be enough talent or the right talent, or maybe Wilks is unwilling to change his scheme and adapt to his players. According to all the reports, Glenn has been focused mostly on the offense. Maybe Glenn needs to start paying more attention to the D.
I agree that it looks like trying to remain competitive, may have been a mistake. Perhaps the Jets should go ahead, bite the bullet and go with the complete rebuild. That's probably what they're going to have to do anyway. I don't imagine they will any time soon, however. I think it will probably be just before the trade deadline or maybe even midseason before Glenn is willing to concede that the team isn't as talented as he thought, and he needs to go with the youngsters.
As far as I'm concerned, the Jets may not even really have any core players. As either due to poor/insufficient coaching or lack of talent around them, they just don't make as big an impact as they should. If there is a "core" then it is Wilson, Sauce, Tippman, Fasanu, Membou, Q, McNamara, maybe Sherwood, maybe Breece, and maybe Simpson. The rest of the team is fair game. Trade Quincy Wilson before the trade deadline for whatever they can get. Let it be known that any and every player on the Jets roster is available if the return is excellent on the supposed "core" players, and fair on the rest.
If the Jets haven't won at least 3 games by the trade deadline, they should release Lazard, see if anyone will give them anything for Reynolds (if not release him), trade or release Clemons, promote B. Smith, Skinner and Pritchett, and trade any othe player they get a good offer for.
They need to be big players in FA next year, not just judicious players, and then need draft picks.
Unless yesterday was just a blip, it's going to be a long season, and probably at least 2 years, maybe 3 before we can be optimistic about the Jets having a chance to have a winning record. That's if Glenn, his CS (aside maybe from Wilks) and Mougey are the real deal. I just don't know that I have the interest or am willing to give them that time.
i almost lost it when they didn't call that late hit penalty when Fields got hurt. refs have been abusing Jets and their fans for far too long. just not right.
I do think the praise got to them. They always have stunk it up after good games. It’s a pattern.
I am going to go back to taping games and only watch if they do well. I know that is cowardice, but I’m getting too old to deal with that much anguish. Man they stunk.
I was at the game. It was essentially a home game for Buffalo and it wasn't close. We had energy for maybe half of the 1st quarter (fans included).
I couldn't help but stare at Lazard and watch him look lazy. It seemed like all Bills did was run crossers on every pass in front of the LBs. And my partner asked "why do the Jets always commit penalties" to which I answered "players that can't keep up with better players they're facing tend to try and cheat their way into evening up the playing field. A CB will hold to stay close, an edge rusher will be desperate in not getting to the QB and will hit them late. And so on. We just don't have great players."
Even on ST, our return blockers were tossed aside like rag dolls. It was poor all around. I want to see the lowlights on social media today to see the stuff I missed.
Towards the end of the game I simply played "where's Waldo" trying to find my friends at the stadium in other seats. It was that kinda game.
I mentioned crossing routes almost all game for the passing game. Someone's comment triggered the other memory. For the run game, it looked like 80% of it was up the gut. Looked like Buffalo was taking the C and Gs and parting the seas every play completely negating any pass rush or tackles from our edge guys.
Clemons didn't sit the rest of the game after the penalty. He was back out there not doing much. On KR, Davis looked great and the new kid looked like he was running into a wall every return.
And as mentioned in the article, Fields just missed open receivers on drives. I felt like we'd have some momentum then we'd miss a play and fall behind. Davis was open on a screen and we missed him badly (could've took us into the red zone). Missed GW on an open crosser. Hit Breece late on a 3rd down allowing Bills to tackle before the marker. Took some bad coverage sacks. Started to feel bad for the play caller cuz things looked ok from the top.
Exactly. He was immediately pulled after the penalty and coach definitely yelled at him. But he went back out later. I think his extended play was also cuz JJ came out with in injury
I think part of that is how limited depth chart can be on game day. You only have so many players available to play and others are inactive. The defensive line is even more dependent on a full depth chart given how much teams rotate. Yes; Clemons deserved a chewing out post-penalty, but they also needed his reps to stay relatively competitive and not completley gas their remaining linemen.
I remember a couple of Fields' errant passes coming at the worst possible times. There was a Garrett Wilson miss that he underthrew (Romo mentioned that it looked like he was trying to steer Wilson away from a decapitation) and a naked boot (I think you note it as a screen) where he underthrew Davis in the flat. You could legitimately see how screwed up his throw was as it came out of his hand. Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes (at the worst times, too).
Exactly. I said screen cuz I don't know every term so I keep it generic enough to be corrected lol
Without watching the All-22, it felt like our offense had plenty of opportunities and they were just missed. And similarly, the defense had good stops then when 3rd down arrived, so did a drive extending penalty. Seemingly every drive was extended via 3rd down penalty while I was there.
Penalties on first down or missed opportunities early can be corrected. But penalties late or to extend drives kill us.
I was just watching a couple of the interviews on the Jets website (Glenn and Sauce). My first thought is what is wrong with some of these reporters. Glenn answered the question on Clemons at the beginning and then another reporter came back with the same exact question later. I would be pissed as well as him though he handled it diplomatically. Do these people even listen? I do respect Sauce's accountability for him having a bad game. When I hear these coaches continually say they have to watch the tape instead of answering the question it also makes me cringe at times.

How was it borderline? Was he hit just as he began to slide or as he was already sliding?

You are the optimist. I hope they win and not in an ugly fashion. Then if they beat Miami, we can either have a season or delay our agony :)
Haha, I just can't stomach writing draft content in October again.
The team accepted defeat after the first 2 possessions. Williams' fumble sealed the deal - flushing any confidence. Within minutes the announcers had to tear up the story lines they had prepared for the Green and White. Simply, a joke.
100%. Wilted at the first sign of adversity.
Isaiah Williams fumbled the ball on a PR or KOR?

You make a lot of sense Craig.
Tell my Ex that! LOL
i almost lost it when they didn't call that late hit penalty when Fields got hurt. refs have been abusing Jets and their fans for far too long. just not right.
I do think the praise got to them. They always have stunk it up after good games. It’s a pattern.
I am going to go back to taping games and only watch if they do well. I know that is cowardice, but I’m getting too old to deal with that much anguish. Man they stunk.
Why subject yourself to torture? You're not a masochist. It's not cowardice, but rather wisdom!
Clemens wasn't benched? Wow.
Clemons played 56% this week and 54% last week, so not only was he not benched, he actually played a slightly higher % of defensive snaps yesterday.
Exactly. He was immediately pulled after the penalty and coach definitely yelled at him. But he went back out later. I think his extended play was also cuz JJ came out with in injury
Are the coaches seeing something we don't know? Or are the rest of the other guys so bad?
Was Will McDonald injured or just totally invisible?
