Joe Douglas will be our GM for as long as he wants the job. The meal he’s preparing is going to taste delicious… The aroma coming from the kitchen is making my mouth water and I can’t wait to eat!
As a lifelong Jet fan 55 years I must say I really enjoy reading your articles. I can tell you bleed Green. My wife would tell you that I too get very excited every year in fact she likes to tease me that August is always my best month. If I had to point to one thing amongst the many that has me pumped for our future it’s JD. Not since Bill Parcells have I been this happy about the direction of this team. And his biggest mistake was not having a backup QB. I honestly believe JD is setting this team up for success for the next decade regardless if Z. Wilson or Becton work out. Thanks for the space. You have a fan in me.
I should have talked to you ! I keep going and no excuses, was good with my kids - but even them have given up now. I had 4 seats and dropped 2 this year. There is no hope what so ever. You sit at the games and by the end of September you know its another top 5 pick. This malarky that they just had a good draft - the bottom line is SPEND TO THE CAP AND WIN SOME GAMES. Until they do that - there is nothing to get excited about. If i'm still typing this next year cause i stayed - please slap me.
6 wins in 2 years....everyone needs to calm down. I'm in wait and see mode and as a fan since the 80's, I have every right to be. Zach was the worst QB in the NFL last year, The Jets D was league worst as well, I like MLF though, he's a great coach, Saleh is....ehhhhh, and Joe D seems to have a nice plan in place. This team has been snake bitten with injuries as has every team in the NFL recently, but they don't use that as an excuse: only the Jets do that.
Agree 100%...on Flight 2022 and all of the reasons for optimism. I'm 59, my family had season tix at Shea. My optimism has often been tempered by years of disappointment, but now my son has picked up the torch. The CHARACTER of everyone in the organization is the thing that stuck out to me....coaches, scouts, admin and players. All ppl you can get behind and root for.
Much of the level of success will be tied to Zach, but we are on the right path for sure.
I think wins and losses obviously play a part, but he got that long contract for a reason. Jets are willing to give him the absolute best opportunity to build sustained success and I think that takes 4-5 years. I'd be disappointed if we finished with 4 wins, but a lot of it depends on how we lose, how Zach looks, how the roster looks. I genuinely think we'd need to go 1-16 for him to get fired. The logic behind his rebuild is sound and it's important we give him the opportunity to see it through to the end.
I respect your opinion. At my age (and i went to games when Namath was playing) this is my last "rebuild". In today's NFL it should not take 4-5 years. He has not spent to the cap nor is his track record good with his drafts. Everyone raving about this year's when no one has played a game yet. We don't know if we even have a QB. Last year's big 'star' (Moore) in traning camp was injured most of the year so no one knows if he really is good. For me he HAS tgo win at least 10 games and be in the playoff discussion in December. I'll give him a pass if we win 9 and in the rest of the games. Anything less he has to go and if not im done as a season ticket holder. We already know we have a terrible owner.
I have been a Jet fan since the beginning of the team. I fully understand your perspective as to so many years of losing. However, the rebuild for the Jets has been gradual and slow, mostly because of the horrible job of the prior two GMs who drafted badly, spent money foolishly and left the team without resources. The Jets confounded the problem with the timing of the Douglas hire. His first draft had to somewhat conform to Gase's desires and system hence most of those players now have little value. Even if the QB is a bust (and so many drafted QBs are), Douglas has shown to me he is worth keeping for his trades, free agent and roster wire pick-ups and his draft acumen. We need patience and having our own Mark Messier would help if we can find one.
Hi Jeff - i dont totally disagree with you. However when the GM's track record is 11 wins the past 3 years with no end in sight i cant give Douglas any credit for doing anything. You and i can draft someone in the top 5 every year ! The stadium is either filled with 60% of the other teams fans or it is just 40% of us jets fans. Patience has run out - season ticket holders are sick of being 1-6 in October. We have no idea anyone drafted this year, The QB, or his past drafts are any good. Winning 2 or 4 games and getting blown out in the rest of them is not a indication that this program is on the right right track. He goes for 2nd and 3rd tier free agents but no one wants to go there anyway. We do know every year there are a ton of injuries. The owner does not demand excellance and that is why this continues. Like i said this is my last rebuild - i renewed my seats like a idiot again. I will be sitting there with the 40% when the weather is still nice, hoping we are at least 3-3.

Have to say Thi sis Douglas lastr year - 4 years and 10 -15 wins does not make him. great GM

Can't believe you renewed again. I was out after 2011.....best move EVER!! This team hasn't done dick since.
